Yep, not that they need it but they're getting some of my money too. JiB From what I gather from Evilhat's tweets, they appreciate every backer, probably even more than the cash they bring in. More backers = more buzz, and more pre-sales publicity. I think Fred Hicks sorta has this Kickstarter thing figured out, at least for their products. -Freyki-

Its blown up so fast that all the supplemental PDF stuff backers get free may end up in printed form simply because of how much money they are getting. From the sounds of it this Kickstarter might end up in the publishing of at least two extra books on top of the FATE core rule book.

That's what the email traffic I've gotten from them is sounding like. They are an add on cost, for the printed copy, but I'm actually ok with that, the cost isn't that much for a decent printed book.

FYI - I've been really happy with the quality of the physical books I've gotten from evil hat. I did the pre-order for Dresden Files, and those books are holding up well.
Also, they are really concerned with customer satisfaction - there was a printing error in my copy of 'your story'. (a half signature of pages got folded over and miscut - pretty minor really.) I fired off an email and a couple of pictures and had a new one within a few days.

My first Kickstarter!! Mostly because I finally have a job again. ^.^
I think that Fred is really going about this all the right ways.

I think that Fred is really going about this all the right ways. 1. Be 95% done with the work part when you start. 2. Deliver what you promised. 3. Give regular updates for any new work you've created for yourself. All the right ways.

I think this kickstarter is getting way out of hand.
Enough with the damn stretch goals already.
Honestly how excited can one be about Freeport FATE edition?
Just stop. I worry the more stuff they promise is just much more work that can be late.
Not sure if anyone's noticed but the last Evil Hat Kickstarter "Race to Adventure" is now planning on being 2 to 3 months late.
Now I like evilhat. I am backing FATE core, but enough already. You don't need to plan out the rest of the FATE line off 1 kickstarter.
You overfunded. GREAT! Now quit trying to milk the same cow and start making some butter.

They aren't making the Freeport book. GR will be. And personally, as a huge Freeport fan, I am very excited for this.
Although, the next stretch goal that I would like to see would be for the campaign book to be made hardcover...

Although, the next stretch goal that I would like to see would be for the campaign book to be made hardcover... Well, I'm glad your excited about it. But in my mind it's not as if FATE is so crunchy you couldn't just use your old d20 Freeport book for the material. And just because it's getting farmed out doesn't mean it's less likely to be late. Evil Hat will just have less control over it, but I guarantee they'll get the full brunt of complaints if it does. I have noticed a lot of Kickstarters running late start to get littered with nasty backer comments, threatening lawsuits etc. Some of these are justified with eons passing since an update on the status, others are slightly behind and post apology updates describing the troubles and they're just bombarded by vile comments. Sure quite a few KS have shown that the stretch goals can be a successful marketing ploy. But wouldn't it be better if they just finished book 1 before going to book 15. Then make another kickstarter for when book 2 is ready. If the first KS was good to the backers then "Kickstater 2: Kickstarter-er" will be even better. Once they start promising products that are just theoretical it's just too much for me.

I'll be extremely surprised if the print version of Fate Core isn't in print by the promised date (March-ish, April at the latest). Evil Heart had a fair amount of experience at this, and they have built a lot of trust with their customers.
Plus, they've been very cautious and considered in announcing their stretch goals, even if it doesn't look like it from the insane pace of the Kickstarter.
Just my opinion, of course, but they've built up a lot of cred with me already.

Well, they've pointed out right on the main page that the art isn't in yet. That's where most books go south. It's rarely the text that causes serious delays.
So, it's not an outrageous possibility.
Personally, I don't have a problem with all his stretch goals. It's not him promising the world if people give him more money than he requested.... It's people are giving him gobs more money than he asked for (and therefor needed), so he's trying to add extra value. He's remarkable upfront about the time frames being uncertain about things that come down the pike. So, I really don't take issue with them.
As for them getting nasty comments and threats... This is the Internet we're talking about. Anonymity meets Audience = Jerk. I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

Really neat update from Evil Hat. color and emphasis added by me (begin excerpt....)We've done it! Fate Core's physical proof is on Fred's kitchen table right now. We're going to pull the trigger on an amazing 13,000-unit print run in the next few days. Fate Accelerated Edition's proof will arrive early this week as well, and go off to the printer for a similarly boggling-sized first printing. We'll be releasing the PDFs of both to the world at the same time as the physical books -- and right now it's looking on track for shipping to happen sometime in July. We'll use this window of time to get the epub, mobi, and online SRD of both Fate Core and Fate Accelerated put together now that the layout and extensive (thanks to you!) proofreading and clarification edits are done. But you backed this project, so you get the PDFs early! Here's where you can download a zip-file of both: (REDACTED** but I do consider you my friends, so if you ask I'll give it to you ** REDACTED)If you have a friend who missed out on the Kickstarter, please feel free to privately share the download link with them, and encourage them to "pay what they like" early if they think it's worth more than free: Paypal payments can be sent to payments@evilhat.com While we normally avoid redundant messaging, this is too big a deal -- so you'll see this message come across via our separate email system as well (this will make sure it reaches folks who don't get updates from Kickstarter, and those who backed via another means). (... end excerpt)I really think Evil hat is a quality operation
