(Still hoping that one day there'll be a Hitchikers Guide RPG - from the books/radio not that horrible movie) What about the text adventure game and the mini series? After all Adams wrote the script for everyone of them and changed the story ever damn time on purpose just to fuck with people. Gotta love an author who enjoyed toying with the fandom so much. Also who wasn't afraid to. JiB

Admittedly Adams believed that things should be changed when the medium is changed, and thus experimented accordingly. He tended to fuck more with people behind the scenes for fun.

he also changed essential elements from radio to book for entirely legal reasons. The original radio play wasn't a solo drafting . . . it was a collaborative effort. In the books he changed elements to avoid any potential problems with his colleagues and the BBC - he wasn't trying to dick people around rather he was trying to do the opposite. If you ever get to listen to fit 4,5 and 6 of the radioplay (adapted by BBC radio 4 several years ago and covering the last 3 books with most of the original cast) you'll be aware that they cleverly re-engined the first episode of 'life, the universe and everything' (fit 4) so that it maintained continuity with the original radioplay to include the later events from the books. Still who is going to be brave enough to RPG it? I recently got hold of the Red Dwarf RPG . . . but I think a heavily house ruled Traveller would still be a better fit. As mongoose has demonstrated in several supplements it's easy to alter certain stats to suit the genre . . . specifically Edu and Soc in their Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog releases (In SD Soc is replaced with reputation because mutants have no social standing but as Search/Destroy Agents (Strontium Dogs) they have reputations which can be both a good and a bad thing) Aaron
