My games for Gateway 2013
Title: Gods Among Us System: Hero System 6th Edition Genre: Super Heroes
Description:
History will call this time the “dark ages,” but those who live it call it, “life.” Every age needs heroes, and this is no exception. When the darkness comes calling, when the giants threaten, when the great wolves howl at the hall door, someone must answer that call and protect those who just wish to live their lives. Will you be the one to answer?
Title: Zombie Mall 3: Aftermath System: Hero System 6th Edition Genre: Modern Thriller
Description:
In the months since the devastating terrorist attack on Los Angeles the U.S. has been a country afraid. Not since 911 have the people of the U.S. known such fear. Disturbing rumors have begun to circulate that there was more to it than a simple terrorist attack. Web sites and worse have sprung up claiming that the government was to blame, only to disappear just as quickly. You have been tasked with finding witnesses and proof of the government's involvement if any in the events in Los Angeles.

When I figure out what my Gateway 2013 games are, I'll make sure to post them up here. I have a question though.
I have several Ubiquity games that I'll run during the day to "pay" for my con pass, but because Apocalypse World-based games aren't that great with more than four players, they're not ideal for racking up my player hours. Do people often hang around in the hotel/bar/wherever after the con has finished for the day? I'd like to run some of my "dirty hippie" games for the HJs crew, but probably won't run them as "official" Gateway 2013 games. Would people be willing to hand around to play them? Is there even an open gaming area where people can run pick up games?
Thanks, and see y'all bitches at the end of August!

"Do people often hang around in the hotel/bar/wherever"
You actually asked if we hang around the bar? Heaven forbid! We wouldn't be caught dead hanging 'round a bar. Do you know what people do there? Consuming their devil-malt beverages! The shame of it, I say!
Sorry. Yes. We often hang out around the bar. As you walk in the main entrance of the hotel, walk past the elevators and you'll hit the bar. We congregate there on Fridays prior to the 8pm game session usually. I have never walked into the bar area (except once at 7am) and not found a host or listener there to join.
I'm not sure how they feel about gaming in the bar -- I've never seen anyone try to game there. But there are plenty of tables in the RPG section and surrounding areas, so it'd be easy to find a place to game.

Another option is to grab a group of people to play and then head off to find a quiet spot either out of the way (there are usually unoccupied tables near the rpg rooms, or you can go to someone's room to play. We played Fiasco on Sunday night in our room at GameX and it was superior fun.

I have played in a number of ShadowCon games, which are not a part of the official game offerings. It is absolutely done. There is usually open gaming space near the RPG area and in the board gaming room. I reserve a corner suite, which is also awesome for gaming. (And awesome for eating & drinking, so as not to get kicked out of the bar or spend a mint on quasi-lameness. Sorry, Sheraton, you know it's true.)

I've registered my games for Gateway 2013.
Game #1 Title: The Lost Temple-City of Xtylos Game System: Dungeon WorldGM: Christopher Stone-Bush Time Slot: Friday 2pm Description: Sand dune drifts are piled high where the city's walls once stood. All that remains of the once mighty metropolis are half-buried stone blocks and the city gates marble columns carved in the likeness of towering human forms, emerging from the crashing sea...
Dare you brave the lost Temple-City of Xtylos?Astute HJers will notice that I'm running this exact same scenario for JackerCon 2013. But since different people will be playing at Gateway, I think it's OK. Consider JackerCon a playtest. Plus, this is one of them there hippie games and the course of the adventure can be wildly different based on how the set up questions get answered. I've run my Tower of the Ice Witch scenario three times with three different groups, and each time was vastly different than the others.
Game #2 Title: In Over Their Heads Game System: Monster of the WeekGM: Christopher Stone-Bush Time Slot: Saturday 2pm Description: The Hunters are investigating a series of grisly killings, but time is quickly running out. Will they be able to solve the mystery before it's too late, or have they finally gotten themselves in over their heads?
Game #3 Title: Tower of the Ice Witch Game System: Dungeon WorldGM: Christopher Stone-Bush Time Slot: Monday 2pm Description: The winters are colder, the nights are longer, and the forests are darker. Shadows stalk the frozen wastes once more, pushing into the civilized lands. Outlying houses are found empty, their inhabitants gone without a trace. People huddle around their fireplaces and whisper that Eisathora the Ice Witch has returned. This is the scenario that I first ran for D.T. Pints, jfever, ericfromnj, Forresst, and scubasteve at the beginning of this year. It's also the scenario in the (horrible quality) Dungeon World AP I put up in the forums. However, as this is a hippie game, things will probably be completely different from the other times this has been run. My Gateway 2013 Con games? All Apocalypse, All the Time!

Yay! Sounds good. What days/times are you shooting for preference-wise, for your games? That "Lost Temple-City of Xtylos" game is Friday at either the 2, 4, or 6pm time slot. I'd like to run most of my games in the late afternoon/early evening allowing me some prep/sleep in time in the mornings and free time for dinner after. I'm trying to run as many Apocalypse World-based games as possible so as many HJers as possible can get seats. Hopefully before the podcast on Saturday night so they can all espouse my brilliance on air. Heh. I could probably run two Dungeon World games on Saturday (one morning the other afternoon) but I want to be done by 8 to join the podcast audience. I'm debating on registering a Monsterhearts game for an evening slot (that game has to be played at night), but I'm not sure. That one more than any others is intended for HJer, especially cadave. That's why I asked if people hand around after dark. I'm totally down for an "off the register" game of Monsterhearts with interested people just off in a quiet corner somewhere.

The way the time slots work out (assuming a 4 hour game) you basically have 09:00-13:00 (morning), 14:00-18:00 (afternoon) and 20:00-23:59 (evening). There are time slots in the wee dark hours as well, but I'm usually comatose by then. Saturday at 14:00 (2pm for all you non-24hour types) is the "prime" game slot. Meaning that is when the largest number of games are run. JiB

Thanks for that jazzisblues. I was wondering if there were "set" time slots for RPGs, since that's how it's seemed based on the past con game episodes I've listened to. 09:00 start? That doesn't sound too appealing, as I like to sleep in. Of course, I may be wide-fucking-awake due to jet lag. Also, it'll be weird not using a 24-hour clock. Let's hope I don't miss anything because I screwed up the times.

And another game I"m running. Title: Love Bites (and so do you) Game System: MonsterheartsGM: Christopher Stone-Bush Time Slot: TBD (Friday/Saturday/Sunday night) Description: You know the world has hideous, horrible things hiding in the shadows. You know because you’re one of them. There’s wickedness that dwells within your chest, darkness that courses through your veins.
Most teenagers will never know that things like you exist, the secret monsterhearts. Please note that this game is not being officially registered for Gateway 2013. Meaning that I'm not putting it up on the con schedule. Instead, I'm running this game "off the books", either in the hotel room I'll be sharing with cadave (provided he's cool with it) or in a free corner of the con space. If you're interested, let me know here on the forums or just grab me at the con when you see me. I can handle about four players at a time. If there are enough interested people I'm more than willing to run games on other nights as well. Just in case you need a reminder of what Monsterhearts is about, the author summed it up pretty well in my opinion.
