I will read it . . . it has been on my 'list' for years (along with pile that keeps growing of books that I bought to read). The difference is there are no New Gods . . . the Old Gods try to shoehorn the domains into remaining relevant in the Modern World eg: Hermes is communication, Apollo would be sun worship and fitness so places like Gyms would be the only places where he can still exercise any sort of feeble power (yeah the mortals can probably kick the shit outta him until he gets thru the door of 'Al's Big Boys Body Building Club' - then the fight changes) It's an early idea at the moment . . . hell might even make it so that the Players are actually the Old Gods trying to solve the mystery death of one of their own themselves Aaron

Is the idea that the world's just become less superstitious/worshipful then? Like a net loss in prayer power?

Yes, or that the dominant religions (or New God(s)) that now receive/siphon most of the faith/prayer power have pantheons that are so alien, and/or removed from the mortal realm, compared to the Old Gods that these pantheons don't interact . . . Aaron

The Old Faith still being given lip service by useless forest dwelling pseudo druid, hippies, while some real power still found in the local garden club ?

One of the things Gaiman works in is that simply being remembered is better than nothing, so gods who have things like days of the week or holidays named after them (Odin, Mithras, etc.), even if people don't remember the reference, are better off than those that don't. Something you might be able to work into your character design.

Another system suggestion: Kult. A modern day horror rpg & a D20 system from before the days of D&D 3.x For plot ideas: Rising Stars, superpowered humans kill each other to gain more powers / get more powerfull.
