Ummm.... I might not know all the details but do you seriously blame a guy for leaving a fanzine in favor of a paying position with a games company?

Er, if you read Sir Guido's post, it sounds like he took something they all contributed to when he went.

Oh, I wasn't clear on that from the post. It sounded like there was talk of the stuff they were working on going into the book, but that the guy leading the team just took a job instead.
If he did use that material with no compensation/credit/agreement from the other contributors than yeah, that's super low and basically just theft.

Basically he didn't steal from us but he was the one negotiating things for us to work on the product together(or so we thought), when instead he basically negotiated himself into a job and left us high and dry.

BTW, Secrets of the Empire includes the single most amazing resource I've ever seen any game... period. There is an index in the back of the book listing all schools and paths for every clan and what book and page they are located. AMAZING!

That's pretty cool, I know the AEG forums have something similar, but without the page number, which makes searching much easier.

Secrets of the Empire has me planning a Minor Clan game! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and that index at the back is super useful. I'm looking forward to the sake brewing in the Book of Water, especially off the back of the Inukai game.

I'm looking forward to the sake brewing in the Book of Water, especially off the back of the Inukai game. Back when I was writing for the L5R magazine Musha Shugyo I wrote up a really big article about sake brewing. Read like 3-4 books on the subject too. Its a pretty intense process like most things Japanese.

For those looking for print version of Enemies of the Empire, Paizo claims to have it on backorder. If you dont have an immediate need for the book, might be worth a shot.

Not sure how much canon has changed over the various editions (if that matters to you), but I really liked City of Lies back in the day. Been a long time, but it was a nice bundled kind of "how things roll day to day in Rokugan" with a shit ton of plot hooks. It's been well over a decade since I've touched it, though... who knows what I would think of it today.
Looks like you can get it used fairly cheap, too.
