Got my hard copy this weekend. The pdf was nice but I'm really enjoying holding the book in my hands. I think I may grow to like 6th ed.

Just got my dead tree edition today in the mail. First thought through my head when reading the first few pages.... This'd be great for playing an Avatar: The Last Airbender game.....

By the dark power of necromantic magicks I hereby call this thread back to the land of the living!!!!!
So I'm wondering, I've read recently that some people (according to a few reviews I read) feel that Fantasy Hero Complete is not nearly as complete as the name implies. It seems that a few people think it's missing important bits and doesn't really stand on its own.
What do the fine folks of the Happy Jacks forum think?

According to the reviews on drivethru, people felt it didn't have enough pre-made stuff in it. And it apparently still has ALL the rules, just briefer explanations. Hero 6e burned me tbh. I have the BBB's for 6e and they reference other titles that to this day have not been published (has anyone seen the vehicles handbook for 6e??)

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured, but it makes me wonder if the book still works as a standalone or if it's better to see it more as a sort of reference document, which could still be valuable but I wonder if it's solid enough to work even as that. I hadn't realized that there were unpublished books.

I hadn't realized that there were unpublished books. Well, if my count is correct - they have put out: > the core books (BBB's) > advanced players guide I and II > Hero Basic (condensed/simplified rules) > Bestiary > Equipment guide > Grimoire > Martial arts And then they just kind of.... stopped. They changed tack and started doing these themed standalones. Even then.... I think Champions Complete and Fantasy Complete came out, something called "the ultimate base" and then nothing. EDIT: They have actually put out a lot of stuff for Champions. They seem to be supporting that well. Since then it's all been genre specific books and lots and lots of shorter format pdf stuff. 2nd EDIT: TECHNICALLY there's nothing in any of those books except the APG's that you can't build with the BBB's. It just miffed me that they never finished the "core library" that is specifically listed in the first book.

I think they overshot on 6th Edition. Those two giant books are really intimidating for newcomers and from what I've read it doesn't seem like 6th is really all that different from 5th Revised. I actually have most of the core books for 6th Ed. I'm only missing the Equipment Guide, Martial Arts, and Ultimate Base; I also have Fantasy Hero. But I've only ever read the Hero Basic book all the way, I tried to get through the two core books but they're just too damn massive and intimidating. I still have some interest in getting into Hero some day (I've never played or ran it) and I feel like Fantasy Hero Complete could be my way in, but only if it makes it accessible enough while providing a good intro to the system and character creation.

I think they overshot on 6th Edition. My understanding is that the core library wasn't selling very well. They apparently were in real difficulty until they put out Champions Complete - which did considerably better and that would be why they changed course somewhat and have mostly just been supporting that.

RudeAlert The major change is that they uncoupled derived statistics from your basic ones. So instead of having OCV be determined by your DEX, it is now stand alone. The same is true of DCV, OMCV, DMCV, endurance, stun, etc. IN addition, old point savers such as elemental controls were removed in favor of unified powers. A few other powers got changed or reworked, but the game is largely similar. If you've played 5e Revised, you would recognize the mechanics of 6e. I suspect that is true of nearly every edition though. Changes have been more incremental as they find better ways to structure the system. This has meant that there isn't a large drive to move to the new edition. The Hero players I knew had no plans to update to 6e. Some of them still had 4e books hanging around. The game was mostly the same, so why bother? The system they had worked for them, and switching over would be a bother, so they didn't. It as case of "good enough". Hero is such a good game that users aren't chomping at the bit for updates. Sure, there might be some cool stuff in the updates, but it comes with a "some assembly required" sticker they want to avoid. Imagine you had a good car. A better one came out, but you didn't really or want it much. Plus, you'd have to assemble it yourself. You've done so before, and its mostly the same as the one you have, but why bother when yours is just fine and you already own it?
