Returning to Clockwork Monk's GM encouragement problem, we don't know why the guy who gave it a go hasn't done it since, but I'd avoid focussing on him, and have a suggestion. It's something I think Stu may have thought of too, but after discussion had moved on to another topic. (I definitely heard a lightbulb moment in his voice when he mentioned Fate.)
Clockwork Monk should run a pick-up session using Fate Accelerated, where the players help make the world and ieach others' characters in the accepted way. THEN he should say, "I need to spend six (or whatever) weeks playing, before I start another campaign, so in the meantime EACH of you will run a session with FAE, you've seen how easy it is to make up a story on the spot. No-one will judge you if it's crap. We'll have a bit of fun and it'll cleanse our gaming palates."
No-body is singled out to take on the responsibility of GMing. And somebody might get the bug.

I miss ONE show and "Other Kurt" shows up, again! I'll have to listen to it tonight because the description sounds pretty good. Rolemaster Kurt. Portland Kurt. The One True Kurt. Muffin. Except all you douchebags are spelling it wrong.... Cheers, Curt.

In response to the New Yorker looking for a convention in midatlantic region I offer to him DexCon Morristown, NJ, My favorite gaming convention. I know plenty of New Yorkers that take the train down to it. And In November, my Friends and I are doing Nerdvember for a full weekend outside Philadelphia! 55 minutes and 67 minutes from my house. Damn I need to pay more attention to these things...

I remember hearing once that Europeans don't have any relationship fallout from playing Diplomacy. The reason is Europeans make or betray alliances only on the basis of what is the best move in game. While Americans tend to leverage relationships when negotiating alliances, so the inevitable betrayal is personal.

Yeah, that sounds like a load of hogwash to me. And, it runs quite contrary to every experience I've ever had to the game.

I don't think there were any damaged relationships when we used to play. There was a lot of cussing.
I wonder if people who did end friendships because of Diplomacy have problems losing other games as well.
