So, it's been a while, and i was hoping for some input, i'm making a one shot where a single survivor of the chernobyl nuclear meltdown has been held captive for 30 years in an underground facility and with the radiation he now emits they have been cloning him with other animals, (komodo dragon, electric eel, grizzly bear etc) and that's where our protagonist come in.
They wake up in a medical room with beds, have no memories who or what they are. and hopefully they will try to escape or take over the facility.
Now my questions how do you go about revealing their powers to them without just handing them a character sheet, and for them to use their powers, like i had an idea with the komodo dragon cross, he would get itchy, as his skin falls off, and be heat resistant and a bit of armour proof due to scales, and have a acid spit (because komodo dragons have acid in their mouths for when they attack their prey)
as well as i could use some ideas for some more characters, because i feel like they will need to fight other clones with different abilities. so i cant seem to think of other animals that would be great to cross the gene pool with that would have offensive as well as defensive powers.
then i just need to tackle building the characters. i was thinking of having at least 6 pregens made to cover my ass, but i am assuming only 4 players.
Any help will be wildly appreciated

The Illustrated Man from my PHREQUE show game has animal powers. He is able to tap into his tattoos and draw on aspects of the animal. I chose animals based on a whole balanced party idea. So he can choose what form to draw on in any given situation.
The animals I used were.
Bear (Tank and strength) Panther (Stealth and agility) Monkey (Agility climbing range) Crocodile (Armor, swimming and underwater capabilities)
You could toss in Wolf. I didn't use that because The Dog faced man is a wolf.
IF you are using individuals, I would give each a specialty. But think in terms of Tank, Healer, Range, Stealth, tracker and some generalists. This should get you where you need to go with each character being unique and fulfilling a certain role.
The tricky one is a healer. I'll have to think about that one a bit.......maybe a Google on animals that can heal will help.

apparently dolphins, starfish, some reptiles have superior healing powers. if i went with a dolphin, they could also have a sonic blast or some kind.

If the healer had little hidden spikes in his hand and when he touched a wound the spikes would inject some healing factor and help heal the wound.

Guess it doesn't have to be an animal. Could be a plant. Think Swamp Thing, Poison Ivy, or GROOT. Perhaps they can release healing spores or pollen, or manufacture serums or anti venom from their body.

yeah i was thinking of crossing a player with an oak tree, and as an attack they could encase an enemy in a tree or ground trembling tree bursts out from the ground below them
