The Red Hands of IdleThe two men met to cast. One spoke with the dangerous ease of a panther, too fiercely supple to be a product of civilization. Nor was his face that of a civilized man: it was as untamed as the primordial ghetto which formed its background. The other was Lyal. In this installment of Literature Lessons, we look at the work of Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan, Kull, and Soloman Kane.

Cool episode. Did you guys realize a new Conan RPG was announced almost exactly when this episode dropped?! waveyourgeekflag.blogspot.com/2015/02/conan-rpg.htmlAlso, just my opinion, but a better representative of the Noble Savage would be Tarzan/John Greystoke- who was a Viscount and then an Earl.

Thanks again for listening jeffrywith1e, I didn't know about that new Conan RPG, but I'll pretend we released the episode because of it.

Great episode. I shamefully admit I've never read Conan, but I've been heading that way. I did watch Arnie's version again a few weeks back, and gotta say, he wasn't half bad!

No need to duck tomes. The Arnold Conan movies are classics, and actually pretty good. Arnold-as-Conan is just a very different character than the Robert E Howard Conan. Arnold-as-Conan is your typical big, not so bright barbarian. REH's Conan was the MarySue-iest of MarySue characters; he was strong, fast, agile, could pick locks, spoke a billion languages, could sail ships, lead armies, etc. Basically the only thing he couldn't do was use magic.

Have you guys read El Borak? That's one of Howard's I've always wanted to check out. About a wild west gun slinger who finds himself in the Middle East, or something like that.

A wild west gun slinger who finds himself in the Middle East? That sounds pretty cool, actually. I'll bet there's plenty of harems filled with lushly rounded, sweetly curved, tiny handed, ample hipped Middle Eastern wenches. I'm in!

Thanks for the RPG tip, jeffrywith1e. What a great line up of artists.
I hadn't heard of El Borak. I'm currently reading his Crusades stories. So far, the protagonists are like Conan without the sex appeal.

I really liked this episode. I think it's awesome to look at a lot of different stuff for gaming inspiration. If I had a podcast, I'd be mining history, literature, and even stuff like operas and new and be like "hey this is how this could be a great game".

We've kind of called dibs on history and literature, but that opera stuff is all yours.
