My friend was showing me Night Witches, which is powered by the apocalypse engine. It looks good(ish) on paper. We came to the conclusion that it's like reading a play. We mean that it is meant to be played and not read lol. Only problem is neither of us can really figure it out. Well my friend has got most of it figured out. It's just a little more indie that we've played. We also found the online stuff. So I'm wondering if anyone in Jacker land has had any experince with it?

I really like the look of it. The AW games are a lot of fun and definitely bring a new style of game to the table. The historical context us incredibly rich and ideal for a game...and fredrix would tell you he liked it "before it was cool"...

...and fredrix would tell you he liked it "before it was cool"... Obviously... But to be honest, even though I Kickstarted it, I haven't played it. I'd planned to do it with my regular local group, but reading it through decided against. I have a couple of young girls in that group, and reading it through decided that the themes were too ... adult for them. Not that a 13 and 15 year old shouldn't be able to play lesbian air heroes if they want to, it's just that the other players, (including someone even older than me, and I'm 48) are all men, and I did want them to feel creeped out by having to play a lesbian lover opposite a young girl. (And is especially didn't want them not to be creeped out by the idea. Couple of things (I've not played apocalypse world games so this might not be new): The GM role rotates between missions, everyone has a go, so get every player to read the book and get a handle on it first Dig that the missions are abstracted, and no more important than the "social combat" between missions OR just love the design (it is FUCKING gorgeous) and don't play it.

I know gina and jazzisblues have played a few sessions... perhaps they'll chime in at some point. I've heard nothing but good things from other friends too. I talked to jim pinto of postworldgames (GM Zero and Protocol) about it and he said he's had some good sessions too. I'd love to play at some point.

Nightwitches is totally f'ing awesome and spectacular game. It works just like all other games powered by the Apocalypse. It's got a great feel to it and totally awesome game play.
Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Well I must find my own copy now, my friend moved to Ontario and was here visiting when he showed me. He talked about running it as a Firefly game too. I guess we'll just need to read through it some more.

Let me dig through my recordings. Now that you mention it I think you may be right. If I have it, I'll post it. JiB
