My Precious...

Hello Jackers,
I'm just starting to get into Fate and I am currently trying to figure out how I could create a "classic" cursed item. Using "The One Ring" as an obvious example, I was considering making the item an extra and giving it an aspect of "My Precious" (or whatever). This could be compelled in a case where the player might want to get rid of or give away the item. Of course the compel isn't fool proof, the player could pay the fate point and still be able to get rid of the item, but I want there to be that residual desire to possess the item until more drastic measures can be taken to remove the curse.
This is where things start to get fuzzy. I would like the character to keep the "My Precious" aspect but without the item. How would I affix this aspect to the character. I basically want it to be more permanent then a situation aspect, but not as permanent as a character aspect. Would I just create another extra called "Curse of the One Ring", stick the "My Precious" aspect on it, and call it a day?
This could also be the situation where let's say the characters are fighting a rust monster and it damages their armour. I want to place the "Holey Rusted Armour, Batman!" aspect on the character. This would last longer than a scene and potentially longer than a session so it doesn't really fit the "RaW" definition of a situation aspect. Would I then treat it as an extra as well?
Part of me says that I am over complicating the issue making an extra just to hold the aspect so I can place it on the character and I should just say "Screw the rules, I'm the GM!" treat it just as you would a situation aspect and it gets removed whenever the character deals with it, regardless of how many scenes or sessions it might take. I'm not an experienced GM and the hobgoblins in the back of my mind try to force me to have a strict adherence to the rules as written and I have a difficult time deviating from them (but that's a topic for another post).
