Just thought I'd put these up here. I finished painting up a couple of models I pulled from Open Forge. Since I'm painting them to match, I have some pre-painted Dwarven Forge, Dwarven Forge that I painted. As well as some Hirst Arts that I made from molds, assembled and painted for comparisons. The large intersection is Hirst Arts. The corner and diagonal wall pieces are the DF that I painted. The hallway section with angled edges is the pre-painted DF. The hallway sections with the flat edges as well as the stairways and skull pillar are all 3D printed. They look great, how 'compatible' were your 3d Prints with the Dwarven Forge stuff? A useful link: Open Forge 3D ObjectsAaron With what I've printed so far, they match up great. I've managed to match the paint job pretty well, so all in all from a few feet, you almost can't tell. I'm not sure how well the pictures I posted show for you you, but here's a link with a better close-up. I have them all in a hallway next to one another. plus.google.com/u/0/+AnthonyHowland/posts/E5ArKQoJBZS?pid=6217245820962526130&oid=117531816653082990997

Yep, the sound of a forced one though it that does count as 3D Printing because: You are creating a 3D Object You are creating it a layer at a time You have some control over where each layer is deposited as it is extruded But you tend to only be able to print logs and such and the print material degrades quickly, nor is it very good for painting. Aaron But what if I'm 3D printing hairy cable?

Depends on what you're printing - it's a fairly decent spec for the price BUT 3D printers are maintence intensive. Therefore easy access to the mechanics is always a plus, so an ugly open box is always better than a 'neat closed' system. Open source printers also let you up grade different parts and, more importantly, replace them as needed more easily and cheaply. Avoid proprietary 'heads' etc. I wouldn't trust the under bed spool storage either - too many turns that'll strain the filament and increase the chance of breakage. Plus such a closed box will limit which filaments you can buy to the designed spool size, NB there are at least 4 spool sizes I've come across so far (it can be real pain in the arse buying a filament and finding out the spool doesn't fit as intended). The final consideration is that duel print heads are sort of the gold standard now - the ability to print 2 different filaments in a single object. Many single head printers can be upgraded to duel later, again a benefit of printers from open source designs (you can, in fact, print many upgrades with the printer itself). Check the likes of thingiverse to see if people have been printing upgrades suitable for your intended printer. The final consideration is what you intend to print? Aaron

Mostly thinking minis and a small project that I've been toying with (flags and status markers to go on them)
