Still listening but wanted to point out Delta Green does use the BRP system like regular Call of C'Thulhu.

I believe the books series that Bill alluded to where the characters are transported to a fantastic land as their characters is "The Guardians of the Flame" series by Joel Rosenberg, Book 1 is "The Sleeping Dragon". It is an excellent read in my opinion. If I am incorrect Bill and this was not the series you were thinking of my apologies, but I still recommend this series if the premise sounded intriguing to any who were listening.

Except for the biggest players (WotC, Paizo) I tend to be forgiving about game companies using Kickstarter to fund their general business model. Almost every successful game company is one bad print run away from being an out-of-business game company. Even a group like Pinnacle. Where would they be now if they had sunk a bunch of money into Deadlands Noir and saw it flop? It puts market research and pre-orders in the same place.
(And yes, I know it's not a store, a pre-order site, blah blah blah.)

Bill Roper : "Do you all know what Rippers is?" -yes -yes -yes -yes "Ok..." Well it's a good thing all the Hosts know about it! Stu Venable: I can send you a copy of my song "Flail Snail" you can play at the end of an episode. It hasn't and won't be released. Fucking Spotify.

I'm with Stu all the way on Kickstarter.
And Tim Schafer fills me with disgust.

Probie Tim was the powered by the Apocalypse "hack" you played run by or created by Tobias Strauss? Cause a similar game was in playtesting this past metatopia. And if so, sounds like he didn't listen to the advice. I reccommend you play a finished PbtA game, so you can get a proper feel.

Still listening but wanted to point out Delta Green does use the BRP system like regular Call of C'Thulhu. If I'm not mistaken Delta Green is supposed to be a lot more shooty than normal CoC too, it is military special forces against cultists and abominations. I've got a bunch of PDFs of the books I picked up from Bundle of Holding, but I haven't had a chance to look at them in detail yet.

I'm with the good, reliable companies that use kickstarter.
Just because you have profits from an initial run from kickstarter, doesn't mean you have enough to finance a reprint on your own. And if you did, the likelihood of that selling out is greatly diminished in comparison to using Kickstarter.
The newest edition of With Great Power by Michael Miller just came out. It was sold at this past Dreamation, people were shocked cause he didn't use kickstarter. Time will tell whether or not it was a wise decision.
(Though i expect it was a very small printing.)

Bill Roper : "Do you all know what Rippers is?" -yes -yes -yes -yes "Ok..." Well it's a good thing all the Hosts know about it! He goes on to explain the premise. But, if you missed it, you play a sort of investigator of the supernatural who "rip" powers from the creatures they hunt and utilize them for themselves. Just because you have profits from an initial run from kickstarter, doesn't mean you have enough to finance a reprint on your own. Publishing 101. If you're not setting aside enough for your next run, you're doing it wrong. And that is the real danger of Kickstarter. It teaches all the wrong practices to "young" entrepreneurs. It teaches flash in the pan success rather than what it takes to survive. For startups looking to get going with Kickstarter, PLEASE, PLEASE do your self the biggest favour ever and talk to Fred Hicks and John Wick. Learn from them what to do to turn your Kickstarter into something at will keep your company going for years, rather than just enough to get a quick print run out there.

Well....John Wick will likely just tell you to talk to Magpie Games, and Mark Diaz Truman, he's pretty much in charge of the kickstarter.

I've only been burned a few times with Kickstarter but I'm highly skeptical about giving people money for things they haven't produced. If they can't wow me with their main page pitch and video I'm out. I have taken a few risks here and there but they were from people who were endorsed by other people in the gaming industry who I researched thoroughly before giving money.
The one medium I hardly invest in Kickstarters for are video games. I've gone in on Shadowrun Returns and the new Mechwarrior but mostly because I know that company is on a roll and does well. But I've also gone in on an independent game endorsed by our beloved Scott Kurtz that has yet to finish after ~3 years.
The moral of the story is if you don't mind putting money forward to help a product and you're that kind of person who learns from their mistaken investments, sure, use Kickstarter. If you hate being burned by "the man" then just steer clear and wait for the crowd funded products to go public.

Speaking from personal experience, we (Monkeyfun) did not launch our Kickstarter until Spirit of 77 was pretty much in the can - the first book was going through its second edit pass and Wide World was just about completed. When people ask us about how to be a successful KS, our advice is usually the same - get the project to as close to completion as possible, and then determine the bare minimum cost necessary to provide that product. Everything beyond that will only improve the project. (In our case, it gave us the ability to provide additional artwork, game adventures, etc.) Then, when you are launching your KS, you actually have proof this is a viable project to invest in. ...and we had funny videos. :-)

That's excellent advice, Dave. Be extra conservative in your estimates. Better to under promise and over deliver.

Delta Green is definately shootier than CoC. Players are members of an illegal conspiracy inside the US government who oppose and contain mythos threats.
