Central Questions to Inspire PC Identity ... ?

Friends of mine have come to me with an interest in roleplaying, having minimal experience. They understand the concept of RPGs .. I've even played a few of them through a couple scenes in the EotE setting, so they get the dice mechanic, etc.
I've decided - having purchased all three - to let them pick their character from the 18 pregenerated PCs that come with the Beginner Boxes: the 6 each from Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and Force and Destiny.
A force-sensitive weilding a lightsaber next to a smuggler and a blaster alongside an engineer from the Rebel Alliance? Why not! Give 'em the full dose of all the flavors!
My plan is to run a single adventure for them that would last a session or two - very much in the spirit of a convention game. However, I do want to take advantage of the opportunity to talk with them about their character selection in advance ... something not possible in con games (without burning up precious minutes in the four-hour slot, of course).
I want to ask each player a couple questions about their character ... something that they invent about their archetypal PC that will encourage a little character investment and give me some inspiration when creating the adventure,
What do you think these two questions should be?
I like Stu's "Tell me about someone in your life ... " line of questions he's talked about to inspire the creation of PCs, but I see that as more appropriate to fleshing out an ongoing campaign.
I'm thinking of something super simple and central to a character, like:
What does your character want more than anything?
According to your character, what is best in life?
I'm curious to see, and would very much appreciate, any alternate suggestions for these questions.
Thanks!
