My quick synopsis of the weekend:
1) Fri 2pm: Ran
Bad Streets - I had great players who made a great game out of a mediocre set up. Personally I wasn't thrilled with this play test, but it lead to some spectacular feedback which made the game much better over all.
2) Fri 8pm: Played
Necronomizombiecon by Dave Kizzea - Fun kind of zany PbtA game with an interesting premise and a very cool mechanic. I liked the game a lot, but didn't mesh super well with some of the other players. Eh these things happen.
3) Sat 9am: Ran
Bad Streets - This game went much better. This was the first time I did the city set up myself prior to the game (instead of having the players do it at the start of the session). This greatly speeds up getting the game started which personally I think makes for a better game, but I'll talk more about that another time.
4) Sat 2pm: Back to play with Dave again, this time in
Bedlam Hall - If you think in terms of Downton Abbey meets the Adams Family, you have exactly the right idea. This game was, honestly, much more my jam, and the players were awesome, We had a rollicking good time being creepy and strange, and I got to poison everybody. Oh don't worry, nobody died, but there was LOTS of upchucking.
5) Sat 8pm: I'm a bad person, I blew off the Star Wars: Force and Destiny game I was supposed to play in to go do the podcast. Glad I did, we had a very good time doing the show, and I got some fun feedback from players in my Saturday Bad Streets game.
6) Sun 9am: One more episode of
Bad Streets - With still more tweaks to the game from the Saturday game, this one was the best session yet. The game is finally maturing to a point where I'm really happy with what's there, and the direction it's going. I'll talk more about that in an upcoming blog post.
7) Sun 2pm: Kurt Hanna's, Wild Talents game
How Many Hostages - We only had two players, but the game went really well, Kurt did a great job of setting up the game, and the other player and I meshed well (even though our characters were wildly different) A great time was had by all.
8) Sun 8pm: Played in Mike Olson's -
Star Wars Rebels: Chasing Chopper game - Mike always does interesting things with systems and yet again took an interesting system and used it in interesting and cool ways. Faith Corps is a derivative of a game called Demon Hunters RPG (Available from Paizo if you're interested). It's sort of a mingling of FATE Core and Cortex Plus, which Mike spun a bit more towards the Coretex Plus side of things. I really dig this combination and the way Mike did it. You can expect to see something in this by me at Gateway.
9) Mon 9am: Played with Tomes and Nova in Mook's spectacular
Beware the Boogeyman game - Mook writes and runs spectacular games, that's no surprise to anyone, but awesome as this game was, it was Nova that made this game for me. She's a totally spectacular young lady and an awesome player, don't you dare call her adorable though.
Great weekend, awesome games, the usual and ever increasing bollocks from the hotel.
If you weren't there, you should definitely come out in September for Gateway.
Cheers,
JiB
