Well you jerks have convinced me to spend hundreds of dollars on Traveller PDFs and plan a campaign. I'll be running it over G+ but with people from my local group. I am doing a lot of reading and researching at this point, and writing up intro guides for my players. Right now, I don't have any particular questions or anything, but this forum hasn't had a new thread in weeks, so I figured I'd at least say hi.

Our first session is this Saturday! I'm nervous, and I have a ton to read before I'll feel even semi-comfortable with it. I've made some pregen characters and a little scenario I'm going to run them through, so that we can get a feel for the game before CharGen. Then I'll have to build a world around the characters.
Does anyone have tips for things I should include in my scenario? I'm planning to have some combat, skill checks, skill chains... dunno what else. Thematically I'm introducing no-FTL-communications, jump drives, nobility, intra-system travel, characters with multiple careers in their history. What else should I include, either thematically or mechanically? Remember, I'm trying to familiarize my players, but also myself!

To this I would add: - the rule for timing and setting time frames for skill checks (PC can elect to go faster or slower against a deadline in the test in order to add or subtract die modifiers) - invocation by players of allies and contacts during the scenario Good luck!

Holy crap that was awesome. Everyone really bought into it. The bennies worked well and got some good role playing, and they committed to the characters I built for them. Then our chargen went well, and everyone seemed like they really had an idea for how they wanted it to go down. I let one guy start over from scratch, since his character was nothing but a string of failed careers. Not because he was ineffective, but because he didn't have a sensible narrative. His second character worked out a lot better, and I think the party is pretty solid. They're in agreement that a firefly-style game is the objective.. now I just have to build a story arc for them. But first, sleep... 12+ hours of gaming
