2nd ed isn't that good. The rules are kinda muddy. The dueling rules are outright acknowledged as not working by JW. Has he suggested a fix? Aaron Was working on it last I heard. No sure. Maybe you could check the G+

You are getting to play 7th Sea 2nd ed isn't that good. The rules are kinda muddy. The dueling rules are outright acknowledged as not working by JW. Where has he said that? I haven't played but I liked what I read of 2nd ed duelling rules (apart from the rule that wounds from Lunges can not be prevented). What are players saying doesn't work?

I've done a quick google's the main complaint I've seen is not repeating the same duelling action on the following round. Aaron

It all works in the sense that the rules as written can be played. It doesn't work in the sense that a duelist can be 3x as effective as another character at game start and can get up to x5 as effective. And this is just the slash move. Look at the panzer hand style. They can negate and deal 6 wounds in a move at game start.

You still haven't cited a source. Because everything that I've read, dueling is that powerful by design. They are supposed to by holy terrors, and unless you take pains to deal with them some other way, basically shred any non-duelist in combat.
And, in the interest of full disclosure, what I read was one of the other designers in a Facebook thread, so digging that up again will be... difficult. So, take it for what it's worth.

There's Q&A on John Wicks blog, wherein he states that the duelling emailed in the QuickStart had already been rewritten for the final game. But that's all I find. Nothing on the G+, nor on 7thsea2e forum (apart from some queries about his the words might be interpreted) No wholesale "Duelling is broken" comments except for some people who miss the old L5R style progression through schools.

I also noticed a lot of nonsensical typo's are still present in the Quickstart rules - they really need to correct this pdf as soon as they have time as it is supposed to entice potential gamers into buying the gloriousness of the Core Rules book. Aaron PS: More pdf's due October and November for kickstarter subscribers; I can't wait to get the new bespoke Sorte Deck for printing. PPS: wonder what happened to the 'free' music for kickstarter subscribers? only seen/heard one rough track so far . . . methinks the Poxy Boggards should have been sourced for a commission

Hey, if you want a game where everyone is forced to play a duelist or be dogshit when it comes time to swashbuckle, go right on ahead! That's not the sort of game I envision. Then there is the fact that some dueling schools are just flat out better than others by leaps and bounds (see panzerhand).

I'm excited to see what they look like. Also, last I knew, Pirate Nations was closing in on being ready to send to the printers, so hopefully sooner, rather than later we'll see that. ^.^ Right now, he's working on the novels, and the movie.

Otherwise we'd end up with 30sec's of cuts lifted from the likes of 'Master and Commander' interspersed with original footage featuring a bathtub and some plastic ships being pushed around (off camera with a stick). Any Kickstarter subscribers could then be given the opportunity to by some cheap resin copies of said plastic ships . . . which will never arrive (but turn up for sale on another gaming webstore) Aaron PS: Goddamn Ken Whitman

Preaching to the choir. Even if I didn't know about him, a good friend HATES him. And Eric gets along with just about anyone, so if he can't stand him....

I'm going to go with fredrix's Heart of Darkness motif along the Thames as the first arc. I thought I'd have Faust as the End Game Villain later - backed by Vesten bankers to ruin Avalons economy (by seizing the riches under The Tower effectively making Avalon Broke) which would make Avalon indebted the Vesten Bankers and tighten Vestens economic hold on yet another Nation. Behind them though will lurk the Inquistion as agitators who see the opportunity to discredit an Avalon that harbours anti-Vaticin Objectionists, Pagans and Godless Sidhe . . . Maybe even offering, through agents, a solution to the Reek problem at a price (Restoration of the Vaticin Church as the only Church and handing over those scholars who have escaped the Inquisitions oversight) Aaron
