Initial verdict: Very RIFTS. So very RIFTS.
Gonzo action. Ridiculous situations. Big damage....I'm going to need bigger villains.
Lesson of the game: Don't bring a gun to a dragon fight.

I dunno. Dragon vs. Glitterboy would be pretty close.

As with any savage worlds session, it comes down to the cards and benny usage. In a 4 round combat there were 2 jokers drawn and probably close to 10 bennies in the jar (most being me trying to save the mercenery burster and cyborg harassing the town).

I have to concur with the review. I'm running Savage Rifts for my kids group ( mostly 10 year olds; who are loving it! ). It is over the top, crazy and awesome! We have a Glitter Boy, a Dragon, a Ley Line walker, a dog boy MARS, and a Cyber Knight. We have a borg pregen just waiting to hop it...who knows maybe someone will pick it up this Saturday Best Part of the game: The kids send the dragon in as a bird to scope out the Coalition patrols defense. The Dragon uses Telepathy to send images of the scene back to the ley line walker, who devises a plan. They all have their actions and after 20 minutes of planning they execute, and it was like watching the intro of some action movie where the special forces team wipes out the opposition without any real resistance. It took 2 rounds ( well 1 surprise full round, and the first action of the second round) The Bad guys didn't even get to roll. It was awesome!

I think JiB said it best, and I'm paraphrasing here, with "A well executed battle plan isn't a battle, it's murder."

Yeah, I knew it was dangerous when my son said, "I want to play the Ley Line walker, but I want to create him as a support character....ya know so I can make plans that have us kill everyone and not take any wounds" So he created someone with Tactician, Zero offensive spells, only defensive, movement, and buffing spells.....
I may have created a monster!

That's impressive what with the amount of power a Ley Line walker can wield. That's a good player right there.

Yeah my kids group is actually pretty awesome. They really work to solve problems and identify solutions. Sometimes more so than the adult players I run for

I'm waiting for the errata to be done before really diving into it, which it might have since I haven't seen an update email from DriveThru in a while.

It was already sent off to the printers, so while there always might be "more" errata, I think the latest PDFs you can download are going to be what is in the books.

UPDATE: Be very aware of how to deal with heavy damage (MDC) both in how to resolve it and what weapons have it. Everyone is jacked up in RIFTS. Combat values (parry/toughness/damage/etc) are very high and keeping things flowing but still dangerous will be quite the balancing act. I would suggest things beyond just stand up fights to keep things interesting.
I am going to start a new topic for issues and solutions that i am finding with this game as we go.
