A long time ago, I decided to "just" run a one pirate game.
Now, almost two years laters, we are still planning and I've been forced to consider it a campaign in it's own right.
I've survived with the normal Savage Worlds-book so far, but wonder if anyone have any recommendations for other books and resources if you want to bring your pirate game to the next level :-)

Core Book is All you need,
but you don't really need stats for a Ship and Ship to Ship Combat can be handled as a Chase or Dramatic Task. most Naval Fights fought at the Time were Generally performed after one crew boarded the other ship. because you didn't want to sink the enemy ship, you wanted to capture it for the cargo. trappings or reskinning as it is also called should be very easy.

Might be seen as on the pricey side (8 bucks for 27 pages), but " Age of Sail: Pirate Crew" is one of my absolute favorite GURPS PDFs. Obviously you wouldn't need any of the rules/stats, but the bulk of the material just talks about the life of a pirate, tasks aboard ship, makeup of a crew, that sort of thing. The page linked above (especially the free PDF preview, which includes both the full Table of Contents and Index) should give a good indication of whether it's something you'd find useful. In either case-- Pirate games can be great fun! Arr.

Pirates on the Spanish Main looks exactly like what I was looking for. Thanks.
I'll check out Age of Sail : Pirate Crew aslo, since I can speak GURPS. ;-)

I opened up a random page of the pdf, and this is what I found (paraphrased from Swedish, of course): Special Abilities for Sailors : Hero Fat
You have a permanent layer of lard that can keep you afloat for as long as you wish. You can therefore ride your bacon to nearest island or settlement, if no sharks find you before then. The hit points in your stomach increase by 2. This doesn't change your size or appearance.
Consider your suggestion SOLD. ;-)

Not a book but a mini based board game. Cool Mini or Not's Rum and Bones has an excellent assortment of pirate minis for the head to head game. Each crew has 24 deckhands (3 different sculpts), 6 bosuns, and 5 unique officers; between the base game and expansions there are 4 crews (only one of which is more supernatural). The game can be found on Amazon and more info and some pictures found here boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/168788/rum-bones The minis themselves are pretty decent quality, overall nice sculpts and they take paint with minimal prep work. I am not going to lie, when i got the kickstarter it was mainly thinking that i might run a 50 Fathoms or other pirate game sometime in the future.

50 Fathoms as a SW books is great. Got some great ship rules and good elements to toss in.
The Skull and Shackles AP from Paizo is a great resource to mine content out of.
