I ran GURPS 2nd and 3rd edition games through college and afterward, and am interested in returning to the hobby. I'd like to run a game for players. I've picked up Fate Core, Edge of the Empire Starter Set, and have a heap of Bundle of Holding stuff I'd like to run and rationalize my purchases. (Cough)
I live about 30 minutes south of Osaka.

Whoa, no way. Had no idea that HyveMynd was in my neck of the woods. Hopefully they see this post before I resort to desperate, sophomoric PMing. Thanks!

Well, well, well. Would you look at that. I knew there was something tugging at me to check in here. Where are you at, chronovore? I'm just across the western border of Osaka city proper in Tsurumi-ku. Near Kyobashi. We have a small group of English-speaking RPers who only manage to meet about once a month. We also have an Android: Netrunner group that meets twice monthly, a fledgling wargaming group, and a sizable boardgame club that meets monthly.

Yatta!
I'm in Kishiwada, about 35-40 minutes south on the Nankai line, but I get out toward Kyoubashi/Tenmabashi every 3-4 weeks. I like the Beer Bellly pub there, and Brooklyn Roasters. It'd be great to meet up for coffee or beer.
Where do you play? Once I asked about getting access to our choukaikan, but they're apparently reserved for neighborhood-focused activities, and sit empty 95% of the time. I've been thinking playing at Namba HUB would probably not even raise an eyebrow.
Anyway, once a month is better than once-a-decade. It's been probably fifteen years since I had an in-person game regularly. Right now I'm getting by on a Roll20 DnD5e game with stateside friends, but the DM tends toward low flexibility in the module he runs.
What do your peeps play?

Ha! I worked in Kishiwada when I first come over back in 2005. Despite working in Kyobashi now, I've never heard of either the Beer Belly Pub or Brooklyn Roasters. Are you talking about the community centers? Weird that they say it's only for neighborhood-focused activities. The boardgame group I join up with infrequently rents one over in Namba every month with no problem. Playing at the Namba HUB certainly wouldn't raise any eyebrows, though you would have to raise your voice to be heard above the constant clamour. As everyone in the group wants a chance to GM, we've tended to do short, 4 or 5 session mini-campaigns. We did a two player Monsterhearts game first, then I ran a one-shot of Masks, followed by a Nazi-punching dinosaur-fighting game of Hollow Earth Expedition, and now we're back to season two of Monsterhearts. Dunno what we're doing next, but I've thrown the schedule off with my recent trip and having to work all this month.

Ha, that all sounds like a load of fun, including the real-world trip but excluding the full month of work. Short campaigns to give the waiting queue of GMs a chance to lead? Wow, impressive! If you're open to an additional member, let me know when your group's plans firm up.
Yes, I meant the per-neighborhood community centers. Life in Kishiwada is good, but like anything Japanese there are rules in place for just about anything, even when the people adhering to or enforcing them can't recall exactly why. It's one reason why "There's nothing to be done about it" is such a popular phrase here.
If you like craft beer, that Beer Belly pub is a tied house for Minoh Beer, and they've also microbrewed their own stuff as well. I had a raspberry brown ale there that was aces. Brooklyn has a patio on that river, so it's a fine place to sit and think or work.
I'm @codpiece on Twitter. If you like, follow me back so I can DM you next time I'm heading up to Namba/Kyobashi and we can follow up.

Hey, just so you know, HyveMynd and I managed to meet up and talk at a pub in downtown Osaka. Thanks for making the connection! I think he's going to have another round of drinks with me before determining whether or not to introduce me to his RPG friends, since we mostly forgot to talk about games and he doesn't know if I'm a munchkin or not.

LOL. Don't worry, chronovore. I'm pretty sure you're not a munchkin.

Yes, sloppy semantics in word-based descriptors allow me all kinds of leeway. "Has God-complex" can be loosely translated into godlike powers. Or something.
