As for a DO? Sit down with your players and discuss setting expectations. Build characters with them all there together in a group so everyone is on the same page. This. And to expand on it as well discuss rules expectations. Using one of your previous posts as an example if you want to play in a world with potions that go off after a while then let people know in advance, not just have it happen out of the blue. I'll also agree with previous posts that if you're uncomfortable with GMing a new system then don't try and change it initially, get used to it and then decide if you need to house rule anything.

Being a guy running a Savage Worlds campaign right now, I would also chime in and say don't tinker with the system until you get comfortable with it. It is just going to mess you up otherwise, and plus a lot of times with Savage Worlds you can find something that already does what you are looking for. (I wanted to run something which had magic but not obvious effects like bolts of lightning or anything - then my Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane book smacked me upside the head.)
As for experiences GMing, all I can say is don't force your own story down their throats. Let them explore what they are interested in. At its heart this is what yes, anding is about. "Does this sword have any interesting markings on it?" "Yes, and they seem to be far more ancient than you realize after first glance" or something to that effect. My last session was supposed to be sneaking in and fighting an avatar of a snake god. It turned into Black Hawk Down 1610. Players had a blast doing what they were doing.
Hyvemynd, what the heck are you doing reading posts on this part of the forum? You feeding your rage or something?

It was a slow day at work. Plus, I need to keep my rage batteries topped up somehow.

don't force your own story down their throats. Let them explore what they are interested in. This. The best advice HJRP has ever given me as a GM is this: don't come up with solutions, just come up with problems. Let the players come up with the solutions.

As GM, it's not your job to figure out (or even worse, decide) how the characters overcome the problems you toss at them.

anybody know some good printable guides for homebrewing and GMing a session with the Savage Worlds System? i could use a list of dos and don'ts because i plan to hopefully run some one shots later in 2017. the last system i GMed was a modified D&D 5e and by using common sense, i got accused of dickery. The savage worlds book? There is also the weekly savage worlds GM meetup thing the show has talked about before (I think jazzisblues is involved, so he might be able to tell you more). Maybe try not to homebrew your first game. Just try savage worlds as it is. You don't need to dive into the 'design deep end' right from the get go. Why do you want to homebrew something? What is it that you're after? JiB

Some GMing Experience, a Boost to my Self Esteem, and the benefit of helping players find a game. and to also prove myself better than my Saturday GM despite having picked up a lot of his bad practices. i wanna break the cycle.

Ahh... Hmm... Not the answer I was expecting. Good reasons to try GMing for sure, though.
Sounds to me like you just need to do it. That's honestly the only way to gain experience at anything.

So could you clarify, when you say "homebrew" do you mean setting, rather than rules?

Rather than homebrew (GOD I hate that word) a setting, why not use one of the many existing settings for Savage Worlds?
Or, if money is an issue, sit down with your prospective players and hash out what type of game you all want to play.
