Returning for its 26th year, Gamicon will be held in Cedar Rapids on February 24th through 26th 2017. (The Iowa City Sheraton where it's been held the last two years is apparently undergoing major renovations.) That's a bit further of a drive for me, but I'm still going on Saturday the 25th to get in some good Grindhouse-ing and Dread RPG. Anybody else planning to attend?

Maybe. My in-laws live in Cedar Rapids and they would like some time with the wife and kid.

I'll be there, only running two games. Continuation of The Sprawl game now that you've gotten the HJRP Season 13 tapes, time to confront Godking Stu Venable . I'll also run a continuation of my SW Supers game. So pumped

I asked that very thing today on their FB account and was told it was approx 2 weeks before the con. They still have games coming in. They also said they would announce it when it goes live.

lowkeyoh Downside, I won't be able to sit in on your games. Upside, I'll be running my Dread scenario at 7PM Saturday if you'd like to get in on that action this year.

Yep, sorry. Still getting a lot of mileage out of that one. I DO have an idea that I'm tinkering with for another convention one-shot though, but with everything else I have on my plate I'm not gonna get it done for this year's conventions.

Damn, sorry to hear that. If I find myself short a player for my 7PM Dread game on Friday, you'll be the first to know.

I never got the email either, but as it turns out my family got hit by the stomach bug this week. We're all doing better, but in that post-sick time of "kinda feel like ass and still need to sleep for several days."
Roll some dice for me.

Many dice were slung this weekend. I dunno about the rest of 'em, but I'm very impressed by the new Cedar Rapids digs. I have no insider information, but I'd be quite surprised if Gamicon didn't get permanently relocated to this new venue. There was plenty of elbow room for all, and we didn't have to pack every event into one big room together. Now if we could just convince them to get rid of that registration spreadsheet... ---------------- My games were great. The Grindhouse wasn't one of our best showings; there were many new and young players who needed extra time and hand-holding. Typically in an eight-hour run I aim for completing 40 rounds of combat, but yesterday we only finished 28 rounds. That said, there were several shining moments. One kid, knowing he was about to die, took out his opponent with a flying elbow drop that dislodged 'em both from the tower to fall into a grinder pit below. I also had two kids join who'd never even played a tabletop game. Both had a great time, and one of them took to it like a fish to water, winning the award for Most Kills. Not bad for a 12-year-old. Before he left, he declared that he wanted to start playing D&D. It felt damn good. I also had four new players tell me they are planning to attend QC Game Fest just so they can play more Grindhouse. (And I swear ta gawd, one was Stu's evil twin doppelganger, complete with long goatee.) And then I ran my Dread Terror in Paradise game. I've had good sessions and okay sessions with that scenario. Last night's group were contenders for the single best group I've ever GM'd. We were all sore from the laughing by the time it was done, and they were spectacular Wrench-Throwing Murder Hobos (in a great way). I'm exhausted today, but it was so worth it. I can't wait to do it again in April.
