I have a player working on his character in a horror campaign and he's thinking about picking 'Low Self-Imagine' as a disadvantage.
Aren't most situations in rpgs of the kind where the odds are stacked against you, at least in a horror campaign? Especially if you follow the Happy Jacks motto of only asking for rolls when the outcome would be exciting or interesting?
Will my player's real self-imagine be crushed when he botches all his rolls since I only ask him to roll in dramatic situations?

Dramatic situations and Odds Are Against You are two things that while not mutually exclusive, are different.
Plus, reread the description, it's based on the character's perception. If he doesn't realize how much of a long shot whatever he is trying is, he won't be affected.
