Anyone try this yet?
I will admit that even playing two Apocalypse World style games with good GMs, I am not one of the converted yet, but listening about this game on Fear the Boot makes me think it is right up my alley.

Blades is utterly spectacular. There are things about it that I really supremely dig. Flashbacks and Vices are probably my two favorite things about this game.

Basically a vice is something that you do to relieve stress. At the end of the session you can indulge in your vice (there's a move for that) to reduce stress you've taken during the job. It is possible to overindulge which also has ramifications. A flashback happens in the middle of a job. Say for example you're infiltrating a rival gang's hideout, and your lurk says something like, "Wouldn't it be handy if we'd brought silence powder?" Flashback to before the job started and someone makes or acquires silence powder. There are die rolls involved and possibly stress, and things can of course go badly. the goal of the flashback mechanic is to take out the analysis paralysis of prepping for a job and to mostly just get to it. Cheers, JiB

I've backed and read every version of Blades in the Dark as it was released, but not had a chance to run or play a game yet, sadly. Perhaps this is controversial, but while clearly inspired by PbtA games, I don't really consider BitD a PbtA game. It has clocks, sure. But the core mechanic of an Action Roll (where you add dice to a pool and then count the single highest result) instead of PbtA style moves make this feel like something different.
That's certainly not meant to start an "indie game edition war" or anything, mind you. The game looks fantastic and I am eager to finally play.

I have to agree with HyveMynd. I can see how you'd start with AW and end up with BitD, but I don't look at it as a direct AW game.
