Just finished listening to episode 2 and love the seeds that have been planted! Also congrats to Zer0 for putting the principle in his place!
Some hopefully helpful feedback for
jazzisblues A lot of those early rolls you had the team make felt a little off to me.
Like using telekinesis to turn off the speaker, or all the various Crossing the quad rolls, they didn't come off as "Directly engage a threat" and sounded much more like "Unleash your powers"
The helpful key is the triggers and the effects.
In directly engage, you are trading blows with someone or something, even if you succeed your opposition hits you back, unless you choose an option. And that hit is not an automatic condition, it triggers the "take a powerful blow" move.
When you roll a miss though, yeah, you can bypass straight to conditions no problem.
But the trigger for "Unleash your powers" is when you use your powers to overcome an obstacle, reshape your environment, or extend your senses.
Sounds perfect for leaping across a chasm, or quad, right?
Don't get too worried, myself and many others often get hung up on which is more fitting for the situation, the big thing to think about is when you Directly engage a threat, you are intending to hurt someone or something. That is the main effect of that move.
If you aren't trying to hurt something, then you're not engaging a threat.
Also, it might help the players and listeners to better explain the team pool mechanic on the air.
You are not technically allowed to spend team for yourself, unless you are doing so selfishly and also go out of your way to hurt your team in some way (emotionally or physically), because spending it selfishly is a jerk move.
And last but of hopefully helpful advise is in regards to the option "expose yourself to danger", again, it shouldn't be treated like an auto condition, but as a way for the fiction to change, maybe a new threat, or maybe as simple as "take a powerful blow" which can then lead to conditions.
Other than all that, players and gms have to pay close attention to triggers of moves, like the legacy's ability to roll saviour instead of danger technically only works when an enemy is more powerful than them, gm's discretion.
Hope this was helpful as intended, and looking forward to the next issue!
