So I was Gm-ing my second game the other night in which the players had a whole city's worth of stuff to do and they decided to go play basketball... And all I could think of doing is to make it a combat and have people use their shooting skill to pass/shoot, and then use vigor to defend against shots and then make a grappling roll to see if they steal the ball from who they're guarding.
Do any of you experienced GM's have any idea how to run basketball in savage worlds? because even though my players had fun, I'd like to make it more fair than the eventual ball-hog-fest it became. Or maybe any thoughts on how to run sports in SW in general.

I would personally just run it an Interlude and use it to be a couple of players bullshitting together so someone can tell a story and earn a bennie.
But, if you got a whole team of players and you clearly need to find a winner, then use the Mass Combat or Quick Combat rules.

The dogfight rules under chases might work.

Who ever wants to hot dog a play jumps in with a Shooting roll with "Battle Modifiers" to score a basket, or Agility Tricks to successfully pass to a another player. For every basket scored, the opposing team loses a token. Instead of Wounds, characters make Vigor rolls opposed by damage or suffer levels of Fatigue. If Exhausted, they are out of the game! Of course, you could fine tune it. But those are my initial thoughts. A Mass Battle would be great for a Basketball Game!

I like the mass battle idea, I might make a single change, in that instead of starting with tokens which are then attrited away, you start with no tokens and you gain tokens for each round at the end of which we have the final score of the game. Scale would depend on the game being played. Just a thought, JiB
