For those who don't know, FASERIP was the ersatz name given to the underlying game system of the 1980s era Marvel Super Heroes RPG. It's been brought up a couple of times in the forums recently, so I thought I'd put together a list of FASERIP resources here in OSR Central. Pretty fitting. • Classic Marvel Forever - classicmarvelforever.com/cms/ - everything you need to know about FASERIP, including downloads of all the rulebook PDFs. • 4C System - www.drivethrurpg.com/product/50837/Four-Color-System-Core-Rules - an early retro-clone of FASERIP released into the public domain. • FASERIP - gurbintrollgames.wordpress.com/faserip/ - another retro-clone of the MSH RPG. Some OGL scholars take issue with some of the charts as they're direct copies of the original game, instead of re-wordings. But this is a more well-put-together effort than the 4C System. • GCore - www.rpgnow.com/product/85140/GCore - "99% compatible" with FASERIP. The publisher - Dilly Green Bean Games - seems to have a lot of support for GCore. I'm pretty sure that's all the big ones. If you make with the Googling, you can find all sorts of resources for MSH/FASERIP. Now if only someone would run a FASERIP game... *cough* sbloyd *cough*

Man, do you know how long it has been since I ran a FASERIP game? Almost thirty years.

I've actually been turned off by the cheesy name... It's an acronym of the four attributes all characters have: Fighting, Agility, Strength, Endurance, Reason, Intuition, and Psyche.

The first four are the important ones... at least, that's what we thought back in the old days.

FASERIP Marvel was great for the random character generation, which resulted in Metalhead, the punk guitarist who transformed (Colossus style) into Vibranium.... Spiked hair and headbutting.... ^.^

Spiked hair and headbutting.... ^.^ LOL. We had a whole metal band called the Thrashers in that system which included Headsmasher. The drummer had lightning speed and used to headbutt people. Then again there was also a samurai named Fred who led a superhero crew called Fred the Samurai and Company

Still, I think it sounds stupid. But, maybe I should try to get over that silly inhibition.

Huh. Yeah, that totally is seven. Me am counting no good. Nah, you just rolled white on your Reason check. Would you have any talents that could give you a column shift? Maybe you can bump it to a green... (Longtime FASERIP player here, too, back in the day... had some friends who were big Marvel fans.)

Still, I think it sounds stupid. But, maybe I should try to get over that silly inhibition. Well the system isn't really called that, any more than D&D was called SDCIWC. FASERIP is just an acronym. It was just the Marvel Superheroes game back then. FASERIP has just become an affectionate nickname for a system that otherwise doesn't have one (to my knowledge). Although at about the same time TSR also had a Conan and an Indiana Jones game that, while they didn't have the same stats and worked much differently, did use a color-coded chart to resolve dice rolls.
