Yes, just seen this. I've been looking at some of the narrative hacks out there recently, as well as tinkering with an L5R hack as well, so I'm in for this. I'm not surprised at this either. Although the Warhammer RPG that first developed this system wasn't great, the Star Wars lines really are, and as those lines run out of steam, this seems like a natural evolution. Amusingly enough, I think the Warhammer system did it better, especially in regards to character advancement.

I couldn't get past the seeming lack of understanding for the setting from the Devs, and the dissonance between the fluff and the mechanics. Plus you didn't get everything in the very expensive core box set!

Really? What were you missing? You got four books, dice, tokens, cards. Everything you needed to start a game. You didn't get all the cards or all the careers, but that's probably because it came out before all the extra stuff was released. Also, they like making money.

Sure, but it grated on me that you only got 3 of the 8 magical colleges and 3 of the priesthoods. I know they like money, who doesn't, but given the cost of the core set, I expected them to be good guys about it.

The FFG forums actually have a lot of chatter, including some GenCon impressions. =)

So I have my copy. I like it, especially the way they've reformatted the Talent system. Obviously now we know that there is no GeneSys L5R (although giventhe state of the beta, I might actually have preferred that).
I'm finding that I can skim a lot of the system stuff, due to my familiarity with the Star Wars game. I do note that FFG have announced a fantasy sourcebook for GeneSys which is more expensive than the core book because FFG. Don't know that I'll need it, but if I can get a cheap copy (or the pdf in a sale on Drivethru) I might get it. I plan to try converting some old con games to GeneSys to try and stretch it a bit; I'll need to come up with some custom stuff, but I don't think that's going to be too difficult. Liking it so far anyway.

I'm a fan of it. It's really helpful for statting out new species for Star Wars since it actually explains the math.

Really liking the way they've tackled magic. It might be my favourite magic system since Shadowrun.

I love the magic system as well. It's dynamic enough for players to have fun casting, while having a skeleton to work with and you don't freeze at the enormity of it. It has tweaks for the GM to customize (ignore components, etc.).
It manages to have a relatively simple spell list, but have options to modify spells on the fly.
Plus the narrative dice creates interesting outcomes.

After reading the last part, I can see how you could easily use the magic system to create superpowers, and off the back of that, I'm now thinking about how to use it for Shadowrun-style physical adepts.

On the subject of magic, I've been reading through Chris Witt's Harry Potter Genesys themebook. It's basically all magic, and he's done some quite clever things with Genesys to fit the setting which work quite well. Already thinking about possible Genesys HP con games because of it.
Oh, and Go Slytherin!
