The best part was the first time I cast it, the GM says "Wait, do you have that memorized?" because he knew I didn't have it the day before for the dragon fight, and I didn't swap any spells after our long rest (I'm terrible at resetting spells when we rest). I said "I don't have to, I'm a Lore Master." He got excited when the other player got out of the Maze on round 6, thinking I couldn't cast it again, but them he remembered that I have Wish and 2 9th level spell slots.

You're a bad, bad person Tyler, and I admire that. ^.^

That sounds super smart, but I'm not super smart, so please elaborate!
The rival chose a representative for the duel, and chose the barbarian for the role. The rival morphed the barbarian into a dragon, yes?
You then cast Maze which prevented the morphed-dragon from fighting for 6 turns, which is some number of minutes already, and the dragon was unable to fight, which counts as a submission, yes?
Why is failing the last die roll important?
Congratulations on beating the big bad in style, by the way! Smooth!

Failing the last die roll is unimportant. It was me being a smart-ass.
A round in D&D is 6 seconds. He needed to be in the maze for 10 rounds to count as a submission, hence having to Wish for the second Maze.
