What makes Swedish meatballs - um, Swedish? The Swede making them. uncommonman You don't put milk in the meatballs? No milk but the gravy is made with "frying butter" and cream. Some old recipes for Swedish Meatballs have potatoes and anchovies in it but we cheat.

You can also make pannbiff/pan-steak the same way if you don't have time to roll small meatballs. That is a common way of making hamburgers in sweden, they have a diffrent texture than all meat burgers. And meatloaf so it's one recepie with small diffrences: Meatballs, potatoes, gravy and lingonberry jam. Pansteak, potatoes, fried onions and and lingonberry jam. To be honest, Japan also does a thing like that, called "hanbaagu" (hamburg), which is a pan-fried meatloaf. You can put onions, breadcrumbs, carrots, even tofu in the mix. My kids go crazy for them.

One of the many reasons I love the wintertime holiday season is the family reunion. I have a rather large, tight-knit family on mom's side, and we get together several times a year for holiday potluck dinners (Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).
Sunday was our Christmas get-together, and I brought my standard appetizer: bacon-wrapped Little Smokies, topped with a bit of crushed pineapple and caramelized brown sugar.
My aunt brought a very tasty new mashed potato dish with a wine sauce, and my sister made a really simple Boston cream cake that was spectacularly decadent. And oh yeah, the main course was friggin' prime rib. (We splurge a bit on Christmas.)
I was miserably uncomfortable for the rest of the day, but I maintain that it was totally worth it.
