OK, so Hayward originally was a drunken swordsman. He came into town extremely hung over.
When people asked himhow many times he had been married, he always asked if twins counted as one or two people. He had 14 ex-wives.
Hayward was meant to be a comedic character who thought mages had a staff up their ass and life should be lived to the fullest.
First, Hayward got shanghaied into being a mage by someone named Cassandra. She was recruiting for an Order known as the Order of the Oak. Before Hayward really knew what was going on he was a mage.
Then Martin showed up.
Martin wanted to terrorize the adventurers. Since Hayward slept with a lot of people, Martin revealed that Hayward had a son. The way he revealed this was the dead body of Hayward's three year old son in a box presented to Hayward.
This changed the environment for the character somewhat.
Since then Hayward, while still a drinker, has been a bit more serious as a healer for his fellow adventurers.
He has also found out he has a daughter, who he thinks is still alive but in the possession of a man named Kornel Merrick, who seems to be someone who killed her adoptive parents. Hayward now seeks out Emmie while quietly reliving the discovery of his son.
Oh, and it seems that some one or something is trying to kill off Hayward's mage Order. This had caused adventurers to rally around Hayward as bodyguards and taste testers.
All in all, it's been a fun run with a lot of angst.

So we found Emmi and I revealed to her that I was her father.
In the middle of the conversation the cast member said "you have blue eyes just like me"
I will admit to melting a little bit there.

Oh, man. Your game sounds dark as hell. There's a lot of humor in the game too. Hayward's interactions with his ex wives are the stuff of legends from inept assassins based on Darkwing Duck to an ex wife that was played by a large bearded red haired man in drag. There is dark too. Two of the three most recent games I GMed had extensive horror elements to them. It's just that there is a balance. Oh and I always joked about marrying twins so the writers sent in cajoined twins. One hated my guys now and the other kept wanting me to buy her things.

Heh. Everything has gone right for Hayward recently, so I can't really complain. He no longer suffered nightmares about his son, Finn, in part because he has found his daughter and also because he met a Finn from an alternate world where Finn's mother died.
Heck, Finn's mother is another story all to herself. After Finn died she found comfort in the stoic god of war, death, and the sea. She went from a female version of Hayward to something far colder. Of course Hayward blames himself for it.
One really odd situation Hayward had was he had a vision from his god Tara, goddess of Love and Knowledge, saying he is not alone and should comfort Elizabeth. Hayward eventually discovered Elizabeth was the real name of his friend Chase. When Hayward asked her if she ever suffered like he did (Chase has always been there to comfort Hayward), she started talking for about five seconds about how I wouldn't want to know then started sobbing because she had a baby who had died of fever. It was fascinating because Hayward knew Chase hated the gods, but he didn't know until then why...

An update. An evil cult has been trying to take over my mage order. When I sent a letter to try to warn the head of my order what is happening, I was declared rogue and kicked out of the order. Being declared rogue is punishable by death. They also never bothered to warn me that they were doing this and told the policing order of mages, the Order of the Stone, that I was highly dangerous.
Sigh.

Oh, man. Your game sounds dark as hell. I was thinking of your comment since this weekend I honestly believe the PCs are going to be turned into children so we can see and fight what basically amounts to nightmare clowns. Or what I like to call out of game the love children of Freddy and Pennywise.
