Probie Tim Any chance we can get a subforum so we can organize this a little bit? P.S. Where is your application man? It's not an HJ forum game without Tim. *Starts chanting* Tim! Tim! Tim!

Excellent! I see nothing wrong with this character and very much enjoy that you did the 20 questions. I am going to give everyone an extra 50 character points to build with, I want the characters to be somewhat experienced not fresh from their gempukku. I went ahead and updated/prettied things up. I'm hoping Tim gets this its own subform so it can be more organized. I don't know if everyone else got the message about the extra 50XP, since it was mentioned in the middle of the thread. If we do get said subform it might be a good idea to have a character thread with such info in the intro post. Does anyone want to work on shared backstory or some kind of in game link? I'm definitely game! Edit: And I made a Discord Channel if people want to get together to talk stuff over. There is also a bot in there so you can roll dice. The command is !roll #D10. Not sure if it does exploding rolls or roll and keep yet. I made a Roll20 Room where people can roll with a few inbuilt macros. SirGuido let me know if you join up and I'll get you admin/GM privileges. Summer nights alone Jackers gather together Rokugan awaits.

Just keep in mind that this is a social game. This makes two bushi so far. Crane bushi have social skills. Right. I had that thought in the back of my head while creating the character. I should have paid more attention to it. No worries. Character creation was fun, so I won't mind doing it again. haha If you have the Great Clan's book I reccomend reading the sidebar about the 10 orders in Akodo's Leadership. Reading is highly stressed (as in, if you have nothing else to do you should be reading). Thus you can easilly add a layer of complexity to any lion by making them a warrior/scholar. Similarly, you should probably have a past time. The Lion clan is a big fan of shogi. More popular the empire over is Go. Both are strategy games that play into the whole tactics angle. To the lion, Bushido is everything. Akodo codified it, so the lion know it best and follow it religiously. Ranks of Etiquette represent your ability not to breach etiquette (which is actually easier in Lion lands because they are letter of the law people and prickly). Sincerity is perhaps the quintessential lion social skill though. To quote from the 10 orders: "When your lord calls to you, run to him, fall at his feet, and speak his name loudly and proudly. Proclaim your loyalty to him with a shout that is painful to the throat. Be convinced in your loyalty, for if you are not, your lord will not be either." Social skills aren't something for courtiers. They are something for everyone. While not all samurai are part of the nobility, every last one of them is at least a vassal. They are the knights of their setting. Unless you are a crab bound for lifelong service on the wall, you'll need to be able to comport yourself in front of your peers. Remember, they are all carrying three foot long razor blades and are like to take offense at your lack of manners, so put points into Etiquette if you don't want to have to fall on your own sword. If you want to get anywhere in life you'll need more than just that, but a rank in etiquette is the bare minimum you can probably get by with (especially at court). Getting back to the warrior/scholar idea, you might be interested in lores such as: Bushido, Lion Clan, History, or War. Crafts of interest might include: Armorsmithing & Weaponsmithing. Games of interest may include: Go, Kemari, & Shogi. The lion are also known for their hard work ethic an non-reliance on servants (see the 10 orders), so perhaps your samurai might pursue more mundane crafts as well. Woodworking to fix his own house or perhaps cooking. Not trying to shove my ideas onto you, just giving some food for thought. Use what you want and toss the rest.

So it should happen when he gets a minute and then things will be more organized.

I'm still trying my best without any experience but how does this look:
Clan : Crane Family : Kakita School : Kakita Bushi
Earth: Stamina 2 Willpower 2 Air: Reflexes 3 Awareness 2 Water: Strength 2 Perception 2 Fire: Agility 3 Intelligence 2 Void: 2
School Skills:
Etiquette Social Skill Iaijutsu Kyujutsu Weapon Skill Tea Ceremony Sincerity Social Skill Kenjutsu Weapon Skill Artisan Gardening
Made with a character generator.
I'm open for connections and ideas, She or he is introspective and (try to be) peaceful but I haven't decided more yet.

I'm still trying my best without any experience but how does this look: Clan : Crane Family : Kakita School : Kakita Bushi School Skills: Etiquette Social Skill Iaijutsu Kyujutsu Weapon Skill Tea Ceremony Sincerity Social Skill Kenjutsu Weapon Skill Artisan Gardening Looks like you have a lot of work ahead. You need to establish your attributes and skills. All attributes start at 2. Family and school each provide a bonus to an attribute (in your case +1 Agility for Kakita family and +1 Reflex for Kakita Bushi). You then receive all your school skills at rank 1. Then you have 40XP to customize your character (and an extra 50 because we are playing experianced characters). You can purchase attribute points, skill points, or advantages with your XP. You can receive additional XP for taking disadvantages. Attributes: 4x Rank you wish to purchase XP. Must purchase in sequential order (can't buy 4 till you buy 3). Skills: 1x rank you wish to purchase XP. Must purchase in sequential order (thus going from 0 -> 3 would cost 6XP) Skill Emphasis: 2XP per. Can have 1 emphasis at skill rank 1, 2 at rank 3, 3 at rank 5, etc. Advantages: Costs listed individually. Disadvantages: Amounts listed individually. I thought you wanted to do an Artisan though? This is a Bushi from a school that emphasizes dueling. I'll come back and edit this in a bit, I'm going to throw together a basic artisan for you to use as a starting point.

Thanks for the help, I didn't find any better in the character generator but I edited my post with the generated attribute points. I will take some time tonight (6 hours away) but I appreciate all help I can get to get started, math isn't a problem I just didn't know the framework.

Does anyone want to work on shared backstory or some kind of in game link? I'm definitely game! I'd be totally up for it. An easy way I can think of is both of us having the same Daimyo, so I could easily change my questions to make Doji Shinsuke into Doji Yamato.

For uncommonman : An example Kakita Artisan Build. No Advantages or Disadvantages taken. All 90 XP spent (so either remove points from something or take disads if you want to add advantages). Kakita-SanAir 2 | Fire 3 | Water 2 | Earth 2 | Void 3 | Reflexes 2 | Agility 3 | Strength 2 | Stamina 2 |
| Awareness 3 | Intelligence 3 | Perception 3 | Willpower 2 |

Clan: Crane Family: Kakita School: Kakita Artisan Honor Rank: 5.5 Status: 1.0 Glory 2.0 Shadowlands Taint: 0.0 Insight Rank: 2 (155/174) Skills: (*School Skills) *Courtier 3 *Etiquette 3 Investigation 2 Medicine 2 *Sincerity 3 Artisan: *Gardening 3, *Ikebana 3 Games: *Sadane 3 Lore: Heraldry 1, Nature 3 Perform: *Flute 3 Skill Masteries: Courtier 3: +3 insight Etiquette 3: +3 Insight Outfit: Court Robes, Beautiful Clothing, Wakizashi, Art supplies, Fan, Steed (Rokugan pony), Traveling Pack, 10 koku School Techniques: Rank 1: Soul of the Artisan The Kakita Artisan is taught from the earliest youth to focus on one specific form of art above all others, devoting himself to it heart and soul and pursuing the goal of absolute perfection within its forms. Of course, in keeping with Crane tradition, the Artisan is also taught to be a ruthless critic to any artistic rivals. When making skill rolls with Gardening, you gain a +2k0 bonus and your Raises are not limited by your Void. Any time you are using Games: Sadane to criticize someone else's art or performance, you gain a Free Raise on your Skill Roll. Rank 2: The Soul's Dream The Kakita Artisan is taught to use his art to affect those around them, inspiring emotions and shifting the views of the audience. When presenting a display of your gardening, you may make a Contested Social Roll of Gardening / Awareness against Etiquette (Courtesy) / Willpower of the audience members. Those audience members who fail their rolls are profoundly swayed and their emotions shift in a direction you desire - becoming friendlier, more hostile, calmer, or whatever other emotional shift your art is designed to evoke. This emotional shift normally lasts a number of hours equal to your Insight Rank. Note that not all persons are equally susceptible to the impact of art - the GM may rule that a particular individual is affected for a shorter period of time, or award a bonus to the resistance roll for person whose emotions are difficult to manipulate. The GM should normally have each individual audience member roll separately to resist this technique (this should always be done for PCs or important NPCs), but with large groups of ordinary NPCs the GM can opt to save time by making a single roll for most or all of them.

I don't think we need to even do that though. Given we are playing experianced characters, there is a good chance we've been part of the same delegation at courts before. Perhaps it's a case of my Lord (being the minor small fry that his is) being a Vassal of yours (since he seems to be farther up the totem pole). Hence we'd be allied (moreso than just clan mates), but perhaps have agendas specific to each of us (pertaining to each of our Daimyo's and their individual needs). If you like that solution than the only thing I'd really want to hammer out is what their relationship was like in past courts and how much they know about each other.
