Does any one have any recommendations for multiplayer games you can play with your kids on PS4?
I like challenging games - like Spelunky and Overcooked - and I'm not looking for: - Lego games - Games where the DLC consists of plastic toys that hoards your poor television - Games where you collect cubes to erect edifices
Any suggestions? :-)

Terraria can be played split screen (up to 4 players) and is a great game.
The ps4 version is behind the pc version but should be updated q3 2017.
I have 2000+ hours in that game (with help from my yougest son) and still play.
Is has similarities to minecraft but more action, adventure platform orientated.

"Castle Crashers" is fun. The DLC is not required and the animation style is fun.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 are fun and pretty kid friendly. You can play up to 4 people on the same screen which is nice.

Yes, especially the second one. It's got better graphics and fun power combos.

Thanks for the tips!
Castle Crashers is a perfect pick... so perfect that I've already played it with the kids.
I'm skeptical to Terraria, but I'll give it a chance. I'll check out Ultimate Alliance to. :-)

I am a huge fan of behemoth and their work, but castle crashers has quite a bit of blood if I recall correctly. Have a look at some YouTube's of gameplay before purchase to make sure its gore level is appropriate for your target kids.

Not sure if it's for PS4 as well or only Xbox, but Rocket League has great reviews. I've been tempted to pick it up to play with my son. It's some sort of soccer with cars game.

Rocket League is FANTASTIC.
I would avoid having your kid listen to ANY game's public voice channel though. Either set up a Child Account on the console, from which you can block voicechat in various ways, or show them how to set up their own Private Party, so their own (potentially empty) Party audio is prioritized.

I play couch co-op with my kids, but we're on PC here's my list for PC for anyone that cares. Gangbeasts Gauntlet Ultimate Chicken Horse Moon Hunters Hammerfall Nidhogg Tricky Towers Rampage Knights Shovel Knight Move or Die
Look for these on PS4. They are really good.
