While I can see people preferring the Avengers over Justice League, I have a hard time seeing people loving the Avengers and despising Justice League.
Here are some ways I think Justice League is superior to the Avengers:
1. Team - There were no weak members of the Justice League in terms of performance and contributions to the plot. Everyone contributed and there was real chemistry. Erza Miller was especially fun in a role that could have been annoying.
I think Iron Man, Captain America, and Hulk were good, but the remaining three were bland. Let's not let Ragnarok cause us to forget the Thor of the previous movies, although he is, admittedly, easy to forget.
2. Third Act - The acts were fairly balanced in Justice League, each holding your interest. While the third act in the Avengers had the funny Hulk-Loki exchange, it was a bit of a slog. It reminded me of the first Transformers where you just don't care about the action and are just waiting for it to end.
3. Threat - Steppenwolf is not a good villain and the CG was bad. (I hope this helps contribute to the end of that sort of thing.) That said, at least he and his threat were introduced early, and we understood what was going on. The Avengers fought a blue light and nameless aliens.
4. Emotion - I think Justice League was able to better deliver the emotional beats. This helps to sell you on Superman's impact on the world or the sacrifices Batman is willing to make.
I'm looking forward to the next round of DC movies, and I only really liked Wonder Woman prior to Justice League.

The DC movies are definitely on an upward trajectory. Admittedly, Man of Steel put them in a pretty big hole.
It's too bad that Justice League wasn't more successful. I would have loved for it to herald a return to two-hour movies. Even fans of The Last Jedi would have to admit it would have been better as a two-hour movie.
