They are closing down where I work in three to four weeks. It’s a chain of furniture stores where I am a customer care manager. My discussion with my immediate superior today was about the fact that there are no positions open for me as of right now. He suggested putting out feelers and he would write me an excellent letter of recommendation.
I feel very unwanted right now.

I've been there! Its super hard not to take that kind of stuff personal... but try not to. Work is not our lives and bosses are not our judges. Hang in there man!

If you like what you're doing, I hope you're able to find something good. If you don't like what you're doing, this is a perfect time for a change.

Dude, thats a kick in the nuts. I've been there. Had a company sell off their company to someone else and the new folks got rid of a ton of people, including me. Thing is, they kept everyone else in my department. Sucks dude, but you'll make it through. We're here for you.

Been there myself. It sucks. The heads up will work in your favour. It’s easier to find a job while you still have one. Ironic, no?
Hop on Monster and your local job sites, and you’ll rebound quickly.

Bad luck mate. What’s the deal with redundancy in the US? Is there any chance of a pay-off, or is this heads-up all you get?
Any how good luck job hunting. Your president tells me his tax cuts will create jobs Bigly. Let’s hope he’s right.

That's a horrible way to enter the holidays. Sadly, in the USA it's entirely too common. Hang in there!
Are they offering any kind of severance package? Are they guaranteeing that they can pay out your PTO and any comp days in your final paycheck? If not, it's time to take that time off and work on your résumé and letting your friends and associates know you'll be looking for work.
Sorry to hear.

Ok. So I got a job in house. It’s a step down but I am being purposely overpaid for it. The nice thing about that is as soon as a position opens up at the level I am at currently I am in the front of the line to take it. At least that’s according to my boss and him and I have this incredibly blunt and good relationship.
