In the PbtA discussion towards the end of the episode, I disagree with Stu Venable's use of "setting". I think you mean it to include both setting and genre. But I would argue that they can also be about themes that are sometimes external the the fiction of the game.

Thanks for the trip down memory name. You should all pat yourselves on the back. Keeping the podcast going this long is really amazing.

Stu Venable “I don’t like [FFGSW] character generation, I don’t like character generation. Too complicated. It doesn’t need to be that complicated.” Yes! This! Character advancement is no picnic either.

Character advancement is no picnic either. What is complicated about it? Maybe I’ve just been playing too much shadowrun, but FFG’s narrative system seems like a walk in the park for me. It certainly has nothing on making a pathfinder character (god help you if it isn’t a low level one).

I think it should be pretty easy to socially engineer a group to move from BRP to Savage Worlds. Gift each member a set of dice. When they say they want to roll a d8 or something, tell them that BRP doesn't use anything but percentile dice. Then, bring up Savage Worlds.

It certainly has nothing on making a pathfinder character (god help you if it isn’t a low level one). Talent trees, skills, and alternate career path for different talent trees. And if you want to be a force user, then all force powers are more xp, so it take a long time to be halfway decent at something, let alone good, and then the talent trees often go in maze like patterns.

Isn’t that more of a knock against the speed of progression than how complex it is? Also, you might prefer gensys. It gets rid of multiple careers and the talent trees per career.

The damage of a quarterstaff (1d8) and the healing rate while adventuring (1d4-2) are things you might want to use a d8 for. That being classic RQ. But, it's an excellent idea to gift them with a personal set of dice, regardless!

Ah, I've never played it. A while back, I downloaded the light version, but it's been a while since I've looked at it.

Finally got a chance to listen... stork ... You are playing in the Beta. They ARE playtesting it. That's WHY everything is changing all the time.

stork is still vying for his place in the Unknown Armies pantheon as the Avatar of Contrarianism, a.k.a. devil's advocacy.

Sounds like I really got under stork 's skin with that weird falling damage formula... Blame Mentzer, he started it.
