So I was watching The Parallax View with Warren Beatty and it inspired me to run a Spirit of '77 game under the general premise of Stu's CONSPIRATORIUM games that he ran on the AP feed a while back. For those who don't know, the basic idea is that some sort of secret police/military force can put people - even entire towns - into a sort of memory-less daze when they look at their symbol; a police shield in weird, contrasting bright colors that says PROTECTION. Some people *aren't* affected by it, but most play a long so they don't get blackbagged or something.
I've gotten as far as PROTECTION becoming more active in Washington State while they're looking for a certain $200,000 cache and mysterious briefcase that were involved in the hijacking of Northwest Orient Flight #305 to Seattle on November 24, 1971 by one D.B. Cooper. The 'bomb' he had in his briefcase was *actually* a piece of technology that could do a lot of harm to PROTECTION's operation.
...And as far as an overarching intrigue goes, that's it. I was hoping my fellow douchebags could help me flesh things out : 3. Any ideas on the plot would be greatly appreciated, as well as some things to keep in mind when bringing the 70s out of Washington. I've been looking into prices of the time, Ted Bundy, the energy crisis, Kissinger, and some other things, but whatever I can get will help <3

Obviously they've been trying to co-op their technology by distributing it through the local dance club, utilizing a talent show with the promise of a big record contract to the winner, unaware they're about to become the patsy that distributes this to a helpless younger generation. Think Manchurian Candidate mixed with Fame....
finalized with a big song and dance number.

The game ended up with the PROTECTION people being a faction of Nixonians that were raging a secret war against the Men In Black after MIB found out their plans for political domination and staged the Watergate scandal. Old Coops (or Agent DB) enlisted the players help bringing the stolen tech to the closest ARPAnet IMP to distribute to agents across the states so they could disrupt the signal the Nixonians were using to control the populace. It was some groovy mayhem.
