Still listening but some comments
Soon after The Crystal Shard was published they had a forgotten realms book for the rpg that included stats for various characters from books. It included phonetic pronunciation next to their names. The pronunciation in the book was “Drist” with the i sounding like it does in the word “in”.
For getting into character I will admit to liking MASKS and their rather simple Drives. Every character has a drive which is “To _________” which defines every other aspect of the character. I was doing this for years but in a more longhand way and this just works so well. Damn you PbtA people.

Yeah, Audible had a giveaway of various actors reading Drizzt short stories, and "drist" as you've described was how they read it, consistently. This is the book that was written up as having completely baffled the rapper, Ice-T, who reads one of the Drizzt stories. It was actually a pretty good collection, though I've not read any other D&D novels.

Oh yeah we did a Pathfinder theater of the kind over Skype.
It went badly for the GM. I think he ended up in the corner crying.
Pathfinder like 3e DnD depends so much on positioning in combats it is tough to do without a battle map.

Great episode. I loved the grokking your PC/NPC section, and I loved the story with Peter Jurasik/Molari and how he always said, no matter how much time was off, saying "Mee-STER Gar-i-baldee" would bring the character right back to him. In prepping for my upcoming game, I've made a cheat sheet of pictures and also the notes about the NPCs (either songs, quotes, or some hook that will instantly cue me onto who they are, or what they want, how they'll react...) Can't remember if I've shared, but... For instance, the White Brides are some shochu-drinking, pipe-smoking Crane identical twin sisters, so using the Runaways' 'Cherry Bomb' seemed a given...

Can confirm that female voices are a big part of why I initially stuck around for the show when I first discovered it. Gina was around a lot and I believe Kimi was a recent addition and I found both of them easy to relate to. Not to discount the Stu/Stork dynamic which remains one of my favorite parts of the HJ experience, mind you. But I really am glad there's a strong and steady female presence on the show.

I wanted to comment on the whole "historical gaming and women" topic. Many good systems (GURPS in this example) allow players to choose their disadvantages at creation. Hence you can be a woman without having "Second Class Citizen" on your sheet. There are always exceptions to the general rules of a period, so stake out that territory if you want it.
You may want to stay away from Saga of the Icelanders if you don't like gender effecting mechanics, as gender is a literal mechanic and decider of what you may play in that game.
As a side note, I find the whole 'fat-beard' stereotyping kind of offensive. If the goal is acceptance, maybe drop the name calling.

Although I'm guilty of it as well, I agree with Steven about the 'fat-beard'/'neckbeard' stereotyping. I think it's an easy stereotype because we've generally all had some negative interaction at some point with 'those people'. But, by the same token, I think we've all been 'those people' of some sorts to someone else at some point and just been like 'Hey, I'm a person, yknow?'
On whether or not being female should have a mechanical effect on the game, I don't let it at my table. I do recognize I'm not running a simulation for historical accuracy, and I always recognize the pure variance of stats between genders (No more of the 1e D&D strength differences between genders hopefully).. As far as second-class citizens and women, there are some ladies I've gamed with who would enjoy, let's say, an Old West game about overcoming social stigmas because of being a rampant badass or rowdy charismatic.

On "fatbeards," the hosts are definitely being self-inclusive when throwing the moniker around. It seems like one of those terms that members of the group would take tremendous offense to when received from someone not-of-the-group, but is a term of acceptance, if not endearment, when uttered by a member of that group.
I am find with people calling me a geek when we're all geeks, and even my fellow nerds calling me a nerd, but if a former jock starts flinging "nerd" at me, you can bet I'll be loudly and immediately questioning whether or not the steroids had dried up his testes like two tiny raisins, what it's like to go from being able to run 100 yards flat out to risking a heart attack at 50 yards, or that his mom had been complaining about him last night until I went A2M on her.
So, yeah, maybe embrace the love?
