Ahoy Jackers.
So this would be FIVE years we would have Jackercon running and a quick estimate shows I’ve played in easily 30+ games in the past four years with you fine folks. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to roll digital dice with at least 40 of you. I’ve been out of the loop for the past 2 years with baby and boat but I truly look fondly on the numerous gaming opportunities presented just because some crazy fucker in Pasadena started pontificating into a microphone!
But with 28 Days to Go Jackercon 14 has Just ONE game (mine 🙄) listed and that’s only got one player. If Jacker culture has moved away from pursuing online games than I will let ‘er slip beneath the waves and just enjoy yappin’ with you folks here.
But I wanted to give it one last push.
(Nostalgic melancholy fully intended)
Cheers,
DT PINTS (Mrs.)

Whaddya think about the overall community Aaron? There seems to be an overall lack of interest compared with a year or two ago...

I am in a similar situation as Aaron. I get my weekend schedules on the Friday before them. Also, JackerCon is almost always in our end of quarter crunch, where OT goes through the roof (for example, last quarter, everyone in my division worked the entire month, straight....).
So, I can't even commit to being a player for the Con, let alone to trying to run anything.

Whaddya think about the overall community Aaron? There seems to be an overall lack of interest compared with a year or two ago... There has been a culture shift. “Anarchy wears two faces, both Creator and Destroyer. Thus Destroyers topple empires; make a canvas of clean rubble where creators can then build a better world. Rubble, once achieved makes further ruins' means irrelevant. Away with our explosives, then! Away with our Destroyers! They have no place within our better world. But let us raise a toast to all our bombers, all our bastards, most unlovely and most unforgivable, let's drink their health, then meet with them no more.” - Codename V Aaron

Maybe what we need is a ‘History of Jackercon’ page somewhere to compliment the sign up page. It could include an archive of links to videos of past games (for those that are still existant in the public domain). Aaron

Didn't realize there was a Jackercon coming up. Real life has been biting me in the leg over the last year, but I'd like to go for something.
What platform are we using these days? It seems like nothing has really stepped in to fill the void left by the Google Hangouts/YouTube partnership.

There are some very confusing messages being communicated right now. If you go to the Jackercon page it say that Jackercon 14 begins in 99 days, but the paragraph below details 13!? Then here in the forums there's a pinned message about Jackercon 13 in the scheduling forums.
So which is the next con, and when?? Without that information in place, I gather nobody will register games, or sign up for them.

Yeah, I have this question too! When does Jackercon officially start?

JackerCon had been postponed until June That’ll give me some time to write up an adventure, at least.

Darn, but it probably makes sense. March is always a tough time of year for me anyway, time-wise (it's the height of busy season at work).

I have a few suggestions for organizing future Jackercons.
Firstly, our weekly download numbers have declined since November/December by about 30%.
Why is this? Don’t really know. Some of those people may have moved to watching live or later on YouTube (that accounts from some of the loss of downloads, but definitely not all of them. I’ll post more about his under the Episode Feedback forum.
But even so, there’s still 2000 active downloaders and a couple hundred YouTube viewers. Not the 4000 is was six months ago, but still a very large pool of people. And way more than there were in the more active Jackercon years.
So I don’t think it’s numbers.
Here are a couple suggestions.
1. Get community input as to when to schedule Jackercon. To get community participation, it’s best to get community input. ESPECIALLY if members of that community need to schedule their time. As mentioned above, there are people who have work (or other) schedule conflicts. Finding a series of dates when the most people are available will most likely help increase participation.
2. Have fewer Jackercons per year. Scarcity drives demand. If it’s once per year, anyone who’s interested will make more of an effort if they know they’ll have to wait a year for the next one. (I’m not saying it should only be once per year, that’s just an example).
3. Remove barriers to entry. In this case, it’s mostly the technology used to play the games. The nice thing about Google Hangouts is that there’s no software installation to speak of (there is, but it all happens within the browser). Does Roll 20 require participants to install something? It’s been YEARS since I used it, so I don’t know anymore. It used to be. I would also suggest that all GMs use the same platform, whatever that is. Make a forum post (or a page on the Jackercon site) detailing the platform to be used. Where to find it, how to install it, a BASIC tutorial on using it, etc.
4. Send me material to promote it. Curt usually does this, but if I have the material, say two months prior, I can put it at the top of every show.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.
