A few notes.
the conversation at some point turned toward the Templars.
Most of the well known military orders in the Catholic Church were the product of the Crusades. The three best known are probably the Templars, the Hospitalars and the Teutonic Knights. So if the crusades don't happen, then these may not be around, at least not in their historical form. Having said that there are a list of other military orders in wikipedia and if the orcs are seen as a spiritual threat, the way the crusades were there could be orc specific orders.
Military Orders
Actually having a different race, not just another color but a OK-this-is-something-not-human actual race raises some theological questions. It also raises a theological question for Islam, and if they see the orcs as a spiritual threat, maybe there will be a reverse crusade.
Finally, what happens when a player exhibits magical abilities. Unfortunately the answer is pretty clear from the Bible. In Exodus 20 Moses brings down the Ten Commandments, which is the core of the old testament (Jewish, Islamic, and Christian) teaching. In the chapters that follow are a large number of other rules for how to live together as a community, what do you do with thieves, rules about eating and so on. Carved out in it's own verse is this nugget, Exodus 22:18 "You shall not permit a sorceress to live."
Having said this here are a few other things to think about:
Merlin and the Lady of the Lake are examples of sorcerers who somehow got along with their nominally christian co-characters. Authorian legends were 5 or 6th century and reset in like the 13th so they may or may not apply.
Add to that a whole array of weapons and items imbued with christian godly blessing including the rings of Charlemagne, the Holy Grail, and various swords whose hilts contained a splinter of the true cross. In addition there are a large number of military oriented saints. Military Saints
