There are a whole heap of false equivalencies floating around this thread. It's almost as though this episode could be called "No Stew, All Beef."

If you're already being inclusive and not gatekeeping based on ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual preference, religion, or any other of a multitude of things people do often gatekeep over, then the message of inclusion and to "get out of the way" is not meant for you. Those messages are meant for someone who *would* stand in the way. In a perfect world, these messages would not be necessary. This world is far from perfect, and people do still gatekeep. Exactly my point, and ayslyn is right too, in a perfect world everyone should be treated equally. But here we are talking about people grabbing butts at cons and treating others like they're less than human. My point is also to be aware of those moments at Cons and to make room for that acceptance. If people are coming to a con with the idea that they already have two strikes against them then maybe try to be that ambassador. If you see butt grabbing and groping, say something. Let everyone at the table have a voice and make sure they aren't talked over. Apologize if you accidentally mansplain (I do it to my wife all the time and I don't even realize it, apologize and do better). Be friendly, not creepy. Showing up to a place you've never been before with two strikes against you is not a welcoming experience. In fact, it may be why I never show up to these conventions. It doesn't feel so welcoming to sit down and have someone mansplain to you about how you are the problem and already have two strikes against you.
Also (this is directed at another user I'm too lazy to quote), I've never grabbed a woman's ass in my entire life, nor had the inclination to do so. If I talk over someone, its way more likely to be a man than a woman. Maybe that's a bad habit, but it certainly isn't a sexist one. I'm not going to sit here and let you label all men as pigs based on your own experiences. Maybe you are. I don't know. I've never met you. I probably never will either, since I know going to a game con would be full of hostile assholes.
PS: You all (You know if you should be included in this group) are hateful. I'm leaving this community because of you. Enjoy supporting each other, because I won't dignify you all with my presence any longer.

Thank You very much. (Also, I'm quoting him here because so many people have him blocked that they won't know he's gone, otherwise)

OK, let’s change the subject. I agree with the panel’s answers to Steve in SoCal ( thegrimace )’s dilemma. Like the panel I no longer (generally*) prep possible solutions to the problems the player characters face. I just present the problem, and a bunch of NPC’s (with MOTIVATIONS like Jim says) cos I know the players will come up with something more fun that I would have though of. I did used to prep a lot more, but then realised I was subtly steering people to that solution, even when I thought I wasn’t. *When I say generally, it doesn’t mean I don’t leave the scaffolding of solutions around. For example: in a current campaign, my players are about to wake up finding they are being dropped onto a prison planet. There is of course a wrecked ship on that planet, which they might repair and use to escape. Of course they may decide to do something else, like become kings of the prison planet and survive by eating the other prisoners, but the ship is there, with its own prelims which they will need to find solutions for, if they want to use it. Edit - Ha! I took a lunch break in the middle of writing this, and listened again to Steve in SoCal’s email. I missed akavidar’s post while (not) typing. “Too many Steve’s” you said, Steve. Well that’s one down

Thank You very much. (Also, I'm quoting him here because so many people have him blocked that they won't know he's gone, otherwise) Well, as someone who indeed did block Stevensw, I thank you akavidar for the heads up. To be honest I am a little sad. I know I have said hateful and horrible things to him in a previous thread. I mean getting moderated level hurtful things, of which I am not proud. (Though my anger at the time was righteous, so, full disclosure, I was pleased I touched a nerve.) And recently Stu Venable locked a thread because of an argument (which I assume involved the two of us) which I didn’t even know I was having! But I can’t see anything in this discussion that could be called hateful from the rest of you, so I am sorry if my presence on this thread got any of you unfairly tarred with the hate brush. Looking back, he, and possibly others might have assumed that I (and possibly others) were saying “all men are sexist pigs” which it seems to me none of us were? Or am I wrong? I know that tried very hard to make my contribution very personal. Anyhow. Even though I learned that reading his posts might make me angry, and everything (including me) would be better if I blocked him, I will miss his presence on the board. I don’t want us to become an echo chamber of people who agree with each other.

No, nobody was saying that, but he interpreted it that way regardless. Which was kind of his thing anyway and it riled people up.

After reading his first comment, I was confused and wondering if he was responding to something that had gotten deleted. It didn't fit the conversation that had been happening.

Soooo... let's get this thread back on the topic of the episode! Speaking of which, the main reason I came to this thread is that while listening there was something I wanted to shout at all these people who have an issue with missing "the good old days," when Kimi read the chat comment with exactly what I was going to say: it's not like there's a finite number of slots for people in the hobby! If you want to be a close-minded, bigoted asshat of a gamer, you can still be one. Just do it somewhere else. Let ALL THE PEOPLE PLAY!
