But it does not fulfill the function of the "X" card and i think using it instead of an "X" card is a bad idea. Some fair points. Although even with the "x" card for someone to click the button / X, and completely not tell you what they have a problem with has its own problems... like us not knowing what you are having an issue with. I'm not talking about telling us WHY you have an issue with a thing, just what thing we're removing from the game. But all that said, I agree with you that the script change thing is a little more "complex" then necessary, and that's why I run with an X card (it is the most popular of the tools) but I use it more like the script change tool. Click the X to: remove content (rewind), take a break, fade-to-black. "The door is always open"... i.e. the X-card is a reminder to take care of yourself and if that means leaving the table, using the bathroom, WHATEVER, do it. So I hear you. And in some ways agree.

I don’t know if this is going to sound as weird as it does in my head, but I find the X-Card incredibly freeing. I hear this all the time. People's initial reaction is: This thing is going to tell me what to do! It's going to ruin my fun! What if someone uses it to "X" out hit point loss?!?! (or some other example that noone has ever used the card to do) But once people understand this is effectively: "Hey, if something comes up that makes the game not fun... let's deal with it in some manner, instead of you just suffering through the shit." Honestly, the X-card is an older tool which isn't really all that sophisticated, so I'm more into Brie Sheldon's Script Change Tool, which they write about in their blog here (and being into my silly cheat sheets, here's my hack for printing on index cards which contains various "safety" tools including the X-card and Script Change). (The script change tool is a little more encompassing: you can "x" out content by effectively doing the "Rewind" to remove something, but also use it for "Pause" (aka can we stop the game for a sec), or "Fast Forward" (aka fade-to-black to skip some element), and has more verbiage around negotiating prior to play... But normally I just tell people I'm using an X-card with some stuff bolted on to it. Believe it or not, there are some people for which a strict X-card which just X's content and removes it wholesale is a problem... they've had bad experiences with being told 'the bad thing' is just to be ignored completely; there's an article out there written by a dude about how the "X-card" is triggering for him, in all seriuosness.)

Thanks. I find timezones my biggest barrier to playing with all the really cool people who are otherwise interested. That's rough. I have a very similar problem, where weekday evenings and weekends US time are harder to do (family obligations), but occasional midday weekdays, and weirdo late/early hours are good. I like The Gauntlet Hangouts community because they put up games at very much all hours. The community is very international, so those Asia Pacific games are right up my alley. The online play community is found here: plus.google.com/communities/116329047011220562548. (There's a different G+ for the community in general that discusses games and podcasts outside of actually playing online.) Also, they're very into games like Masks. You may find folks there that are interested in joining games, although the community is mostly about posting games and having an open table setup where anyone in theory could join games. There's a link there with the current gaming calendar (~100 games going / month).

Ok, so I totally get the need for an X card. Seriously. Anyone who doesn't care about X-cards is basically either saying: 1. "I don't understand that someone at my table - including people I may care about - might have an unenjoyable reaction to something in game due to their background", or possibly 2. "I don't give a shit about what someone's reaction is. That's their problem." And that's OK. That's their right. But every time I hear someone against these tools, this is what I'm hearing: either the 1. insensitive privileged naivety, or 2. uncaring. And hey, if I just paid a bunch of money to play games at a con, maybe I am sort of uncaring about my fellow players if they are getting in the way of my fun. But you know, I prefer coming into a situation where the play culture isn't that shallow. For most people that equals "people I think I trust" (like friends or a regular gaming group), but there are some pretty cool tools that help enable the communication and trust. Rating systems for games (whether that's "Family friendly" and "Adult only", or PG, R, NC-17), and trigger warnings, and things like tone conversations such as the "CATS" procedure (Concept, Aim, Tone, Subject Matter, e.g. summarized here: tinyurl.com/RPG-CATS-cs-3x5). </rant>

Also so hyped... to play! Wow, what a crew. Hope I can keep up with my own stream of cyberpunk tears.

I don't think you are overly sensitive. An AP is kind of a unique thing that has all the possibilities and pitfalls of a con game, but apart from the playing table, there's additional people listening in, with their own veils and lines. The table may ensure the comfort of the table, but can do little for the listeners; and nor should they IMO. A player actively trying to keep their game "clean" becomes a performer, not a player, and the game will suffer because of it. So, what to do? All that was really well thought out and said. The only thing that could additionally be beneficial to the audience is content warnings, if it's gotten to that place where people deem it necessary. (I haven't listened to the AP so have no opinion on this, but for example I'd fully appreciate a content warning on a Bluebeard's Bride game, for example... that can easily go into territory of abuse, sexual violence, and so on, depending on the table and their comfort.)

I'm thinking of picking it up just for the core book given the base tier is cheaper than the pdf is sold for at drivethrurpg. And given that you picked up the hard copy for $1?

There was some talk of Cyberpunk 2020 on the 'cast and chatroom. I missed a lot of it, because I was just sick in bed and half-listening, so will have to catch up when my facilities are functional. Just FYI, Fraser Simons is writing a simplified "World of Dungeons" style hack for his game The Veil, called Veil 2020. It's like his love letter to CP2020. He's playtesting it online too, and with a Google account it's free to play (if you can make your way through the waiting list... it happens occasionally): gauntlet-hangouts.firebaseapp.com/event-detail/-LDyhAHCxJeRVw9kZCrl (this is one of the games scheduled for July). His game The Veil is in my opinion - coming form hippie gaming - the most interesting cyberpunk game out there. That said, it leans very story-driven, and tries to emulate various narratives that you'll find in some of that popular cyberpunk type book genres. It doesn't do mission-based stuff. For that, I'd definitely recommend The Sprawl by Hamish Cameron.

Big Bad Con 2018 is on the radar. Runs in mid-October up in the SF bay area (Walnut Creek specifically). You a hippie gamer? Smoke some shit and come on over. I kid, there's also some trad and OSR games in that mix. And some LARPs. And board games now. And even a teen track (used to be 18+ only). The Kickstarter raises funds for extra projects and to gauge interest. You can always buy tickets after the fast once the KS is over. But the KS does let you get online games with specific designers (e.g. jazzisblues played in Stras' Atlas Reckoning online game last year). Check it out: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1157274964/big-bad-con-2018
