I was trying to make a systematic conversion between GURPS and Moment of Truth as far as weapons go. What I did was find the likelihood of dealing a major wound in GURPS and seeking to create similar probabilities in serious injury thresholds (the second number in the parentheses). After a couple hours of looking at dice probabilities I took a long walk and thought about my life and how I had lost perspective. Now I just eyeball it. GURPS did help me decide what the combat round length is at my table: two seconds since the character can both move and do stuff besides move.

I'll throw my love into the mix and say that I am very excited to witness the second session and all those that follow. I'm also interested to learn (1) whether Nick's character gen was a clever ploy, (2) who the mystery player is, (3) what the hell is happening, (4) for whom will a console next explode, and (5) which session someone won't make a Star Wars reference.
Edit: Posted right before I realized session 2 was up.

From what I've heard on the show, it seems like Stu doesn't care. I don't remember if that extends people are selling their own MoT stuff/settings. But free and open fan material is a go, if the podcast is anything to go by.

I was making an example character with some notes for my gaming group, and while I was considering what I should do with the trait points I'd gotten with his four problems, I realized something. Instead of trading in the trait points for three skill points, I could raise the Education stat and hypothetically get the three skill points while having raised a stat. That's also when I realized that that's why the trait point converts to three skill points (Education x 3)+n.
I figure there might be an unwritten rule that trait points used to raise Education don't grant the three skill points. At least there might be the unspoken understanding: "Don't munchkin our game." If not, that's a house rule that I would introduce into the games that I run. What do folks think? Did I miss a sentence and that's already mentioned?

Overdue introduction: Hey folks, I'm Ian S/Provinto. I play RPGs, am a massive fan of Happy Jacks, and thrive on the stress of GMing. It's almost like organizing, but without the real world consequences when I fuck it up (not saying that those horror stories don't have real-world consequences *shudder*). I discovered GURPS thanks to Stu and haven't turned back (despite the occasional pains of letting myself get bogged down in its crunch). I've been in the hobby for a few years, I guess, but I still feel like a newbie. I'm very excited to join the Happy Jacks community (officially with this introduction post).

This is awesome! Matt Leonard really did do an amazing job on the layout -- it looks fantastic. After I finish my GURPS game, I'm going to try to cajole my group into playing a short MoT campaign. If it's available by then, hopefully that'll be a Blood, Blade, & Tusk game.
I enjoy that the Advanced Combat Rules chapter is only two pages long. Such great relief after wading through GURPS.
I wonder: will the settings have their own information on magic systems? I understand why there wouldn't be a magic system included in the core book. Magic is very dependent on the setting. Perhaps fans can come together and collate a GURPS Thaumatology for Moment of Truth, another toolkit to first construct and then fine tune magic systems.
on p.11 there's a typo when you're describing Target Numbers:
On p.14:
On p.64 there's a typo: "Players with access too multiple weapons might want to keep the sheet intact."

Yeah, I've been thinking about it. I've decided that I'm going to go with: Martian ST 6 [-40], Terran ST 10 [0], Mooner ST 4 [-60], Venusian ST 9 [-10]. Those poor moon people...
Even though most of the campaign will be set on Mars, I've considered that weight and mass are separate, that ST is still important to use things (moving rubble, using weapons that have a ST requirement) and importantly for hit points.

I need to buy the Expanse. I don't have cable and SciFi is not streaming it anywhere. I recommend it. The Expanse is really great. When I first discovered it, I did some light research on it (perusing the wikipedia articles) and found that the first author of the books (it was co-written) was planning on making The Expanse into an tabletop RPG after he decided against making it an MMO. The people who live among the Asteroid Belt developed a 'Belter Creole' which inspired me to include in my own GURPS Mars campaign/setting a Martian Creole. The creole also includes gestures, which makes a lot of sense, what with Belters often being in Vacc suits (at least when they aren't in a [comparatively] nice asteroid station).

I have an optional villain who's usually a part of the backdrop/setting -- a greedy, exploitative, and callous boss of a (usually impoverished) town or county. The PCs might hear about how much a jackass this guy is and either move on or figure "hmm, maybe after we're done with whatever quest we're currently on, we'll swing by and murder him." Or if my players aren't feeling like murder-hobos whose actions seem justified by the assurances of the slowly falling paladin, they could stage a coup d'etat, organize an insurrection, or something else.

Hello folks,
Over the past few months I've been working on making a GURPS Space-ish game that's set on Mars while humans have colonized the inner planets and are just now getting out to the Asteroid Belt and beyond (with crafts which push those asteroids towards Mars to aid with terraforming). I'm creating my character templates, and the easiest ones are the planetary templates (native Martians, Terrans, Mooners [why not?], and Venusians [pretty much comparable to Terrans as far as gravity goes, although a little less so, since they float on the atmosphere]).
The problem that I've run into is just how one reaches the average ST of a critter on their homeworld, and I figure it's maybe intentionally vague for the GM to decide how it'll work (as it's always supposed to be). So the average ST of a Martian is 6, while a Mooner’s average ST will be a 4. B17 says that one buys the average ST of their homeworld. But that would mean that Terrans would be at a greater disadvantage than they already would be with the rules for different gravity. Martians would have St 6 [-40], Mooners ST 4 [-60], giving them both plenty of points to spend for their characters while Terrans become comparatively weaker (Although they could feasibly punch martians to death within a minute, not to mention knock them out with one punch if they were good enough or a little stronger).
I've been considering having characters buy or sell attributes starting from the average ST of their homeworld. So those templates would read Martian ST 6 [0], Terran ST 10 [0], Mooner ST 4 [0], Venusian ST 9 [0]. What do folks think about this?
