Was that the system that they used for Marvel? Honestly if it is I don't remember much except just hating the system.... Yeah, Marvel was the Heroic flavour and got very mixed reception. I think part of that was how it approached Super Heroes, it included a lot of comic book elements that put people off - for example forcing characters apart or bringing them together unexpectedly. IIRC the GM could even end a scene part way through with a sufficient roll on the doom pool. So the players might be left in the same situation as a read of a comic - they know for example the PCs were victorious but don't reveal how the villain escaped until later etc. Personally I like the look of it (have only read it, never had a chance to play) but I can fully understand why some people don't especially if they were expecting a traditional supers games. I wasn’t quite expecting a traditional supers game. It’s just I learn games by reading them then running one shots for my friends and I remember just not liking the whole building dice pool aspects of the game. Now if I am hearing correctly and that cortex games play a little differently I may have to give it another shot. Hell it took me 3 different PbtA games to find one I found appealing (and the first two were run by good GMs too).

Agreed, I think it gets unfairly dismissed by a lot of people because it has tended towards licensed properties in the past. Was that the system that they used for Marvel? Honestly if it is I don't remember much except just hating the system....

I carry a knife on me just in case I either have to cut cheesecake or stab people.
I love cheesecake.
Though I perfectly respect people’s dislike for cheesecake.
Normally I am against people who keep bugging me about stuff, but it took me three times to really warm up to PbtA because they play differently enough that I had to find the one that was right for me to run as a GM.

I had a Jedi player who had a unique solution to not being very effective in space combat in the old D6 system. He got on mag boots and his spacesuit and went out that hatch in the top of a yt-1300 freighter. Me “what the heck are you going to do out there?” Him (igniting lightsaber) “I am going to deflect the TIE fighter bolts.” How did that turn out? After a quick discussion where we remembered that Luke deflected vehicular fire from speeder bikes on Endor I decided to roll with it. The ship’s top gun was non functional at the moment so friendly fire was out of the question. The Jedi was able to deflect enough of the shots to help save the ship and let the gunner shoot down the fighters when they went below the ship. For some reason the Jedi could roll to deflect fire but sucked at rolling to redirect it back.

thanks for reading my LARP letter, and after listening yes, many of those points could be taken for tabletop RPGs as well, CADave, because they are all RPGs. In the end even the LARP is a game with rules where people try to accomplish goals and achieve immersion.
Oh, one thing I forgot to add, by all that is holy pray for me this weekend as I run a LARP. It has been two years and is always an interesting experience. Picture being a tabletop GM and not having full control over your NPCs, for example.

I remember watching Carter's inauguration. That's my first memory of a President of the United States.

Today is the last day to register. No I am not being desperate by posting here because I have a lack of NPCs due to insane things like serious illness. Though if anyone is LARP curious next weekend is going to be fun. The event is called Game Over and we have been sneaking in a Mario theme to the stories. www.xanodria.com

I have one shelf full of all the old D6 books in my study, so admittedly I didn't order this. It's the 1st edition rules and the sourcebook, right?

Continuing to run with a session last night. One of the heroes just found out he is the great grandson of Bacchus, a known villain on my world. He is far enough removed from that legacy to lay claim to a sacred grove (which we call The Grove because we hate naming things) that his mother and grandmother could not enter because it was made by the great-grandmother to keep out people like Bacchus (if that makes sense). So they have their own official base now.
Another thing I have hinted at is that the character Whirlwind, who is completely inspired by Wolverine, has cold iron blades. She was originally kidnapped by people who were selling her to a Somali warlord to be used as a weapon (She's a bull but with blades that pop out and insane regeneration). The cold iron blades just seemed interesting at the time but the story seems to be telling me that the Somali warlord had a rebellion on his hand that was being helped by creatures of myth.
Whirlwind's sister also went missing when Whirlwind was kidnapped. I was thinking of the generic response which was to make her a weapon too but then I thought what if she had a fairy friend (sort of like a Dobby type) since she was a small child. When the commandos came and took Whirlwind and killed her parents, the younger sister could have escaped with the fae and is living in the world of the fae. The Grove can connect to both the human realm and the fae realm, which means a meeting would eventually be in place where Whirlwind could meet her sister.
Am I thinking too much on this for a PbtA game or is this OK? What do you guys think of my idea?
Interestingly enough after ending on a cliffhanger a few times, this game had Avi the Alien and Whirlwind eating ice cream and watching Mary Poppins, Silver Spirit watching his mother (Mother Terra) beat down a villain on youtube, and Nobody and Steel Fox enjoying milkshakes at Jerry's 24/7. It was a rather nice ending to that particular comic book.
Oh, yeah. Avi's race is coming to Earth. There seems to be some confusion if they are invading or just visiting. This is causing Avi some stress right now.

and in answer to your question, my bad villain names tend to just be bland names like The Hunter. I will admit to not being all that creative with names...

Most excellent. I am glad they were able to broaden their horizons outside of DnD.

Are the cultists aware of your character? If not you could always go down the trying to infiltrate the cult route. Unfortunately the cult knows me really well and is a bit annoyed at how I foil assassination attempts.

I struggled with putting this in the let me tell you about my character but ito is less about the character than the situation so I am posting here.
I need to figure out a plan for a problem my character has.
He belongs to a society of mages (the Oak) that has been heavily infiltrated by an evil cult. He has gathered a few trusted NPCs (who he also tested to see if they were evil) and together they have gathered the surviving non cult members. They were also tested first and we had to kill a couple of them
These non cultists have been sent to a sect of the local good aligned church where there is a segment of the church that hunts cultists so they are under the protection of this sect, called the Banishers.
Most are lower level members of the order. I believe the head of the Oak has been compromised.
On top of this there is a mage war going on between two sets of societies which is occupying potential allies at the moment.
Basically I have a bunch of healer mages and a church sect of cult hunters. Otherwise we are on our own.
I need to figure out my next move. I have other PC allies and I was seriously thinking of making enough noise to make myself a target and rely on the other PCs to protect their healer. I don’t know right now.
