Backed. That artwork's just too good to pass up, and I know someone who'd love to get this as a Christmas gift.

Aw crap. Keep your fingers crossed if you backed this one - apparently they've been contacted by Chaosium about some possible copyright infringement. Let's hope it don't crash and burn over this...

That is a bunch of fucking bullshit.
"Call of Cthulhu" is also the title of a fucking short story by HP Lovecraft, or don't the litigious fuckwits from Chaosium know that?

updates happened, feel free to check out the KS page.
here's the important one:
While we still maintain that we have every right to continue without compensating anyone, we unfortunately are the little guy on this one and it would cost us more in legal fees than we could afford to fight. Instead, we have reached an agreement with Chaosium that will allow us to license their IP so that we can continue moving forward.
I am disappointed in Chaosium. I think they just should've commissioned a whole different set on their own to put out with seventh edition pre-orders. Or with their Horror on the Orient Express Kickstarter.
I will be very displeased if there is a Chaosium logo on my cards

They caved and got a Chaosium license. That is such bullshit.
Fuck Chaosium. They put out shitty, overpriced monographs. They reprinted Curse of the Cthonians with larger font so they can charge more and they don't even bother to fix the 25 year old errors, added a few new pieces of art, and had the balls to call it a second edition.
And a bunch of other shit I am too angry to go into now. I had another DoucheyDM article nearly ready to go. Gonna put that off and see if I can can bang out something angry, yet coherent enough to publish on this topic.

That is a bunch of fucking bullshit. "Call of Cthulhu" is also the title of a fucking short story by HP Lovecraft, or don't the litigious fuckwits from Chaosium know that? Let's also not forget that no one can copyright a title, whether it's a book title, a song title, or an album title; they're too short (unless you're Fiona Apple, but even then). Chaosium *might* claim trademark infringement, but the reality here is exactly what they said: Chaosium threw their weight around, knowing that the little guy couldn't afford the legal fees to even combat the accusation. Not that I've ever bought Chaosium products in the past, but I really don't plan on doing so now.

Here is the comment Chaosium put on the Cthulhu deck kickstarter page: Chaosium never claimed any right or control over Lovecraft's material. Our concern was with the potential confusion with calling this a "Call of Cthulhu" deck, and the potential confusion in the marketplace. All we asked was either to modify the name or to make it an official "Call of Cthulhu" deck. We never asked for money. I did ask if we could purchase a fair number of decks. This comment, taken with several others and some of the update from the kickstart organizers, leads me to believe they were quoted a price for a large number of decks, probably didn't like the price, so threw out the legal threat (maybe to get a cheaper price?). Bullies. And none of this addresses the fact that they called Bicycle to get the project stalled. It starts has a vicious attempt at bullying, and how, "no, we're the good guys -- we just wanted to buy some decks!" BS.

they haven't answered my question about if there will be a Chaosium logo on the decks or the cards.
that will likely determine if I'm in or out.
it seems like there's some back-pedalling going on... I guess we'll see how it pans out.

Just received this update from the Kickstarter: Dice ordered
We have finalized our order for the dice and have paid for them in full. According to the manufacturer, we should have those within 8 weeks. One change that we had to make is that the custom image will now be on the 1 pip side, not the 6 pip like we originally thought was available.
Licensing Issues Resolved
We just wanted to say thank you to everyone here for all of your support in this matter. We were able to come to an agreement with Chaosium that worked out for both of us.
Shane and I have been working with Charlie for the past couple days. While I think we all agree that going to Bicycle was pretty heavy-handed, we have to say that in the aftermath Charlie has been very accommodating in our subsequent negotiations. We don't want anyone to feel caught off guard when this comes out later, so I have outlined some of the major terms that affect this project:
Albino Dragon will license the use of Chaosium's 'Call of Cthulhu' IP for our decks, medallions, and dice so that anything we have done up to this point can remain intact as Shane had originally envisioned it. The tuck box will have some extra verbiage added indicating that it is a licensed product of Chaosium's IP. We will be producing a separate run of 2500 decks (and potentially more) for Chaosium that will have their own custom artwork for the card back and the tuck box. It has not yet been decided if Shane will contribute to this process. There were not any additional fees or royalties involved. Charlie came to us and admitted that the situation could have been handled better and asked how we could make this right. I think that being able to take responsibility, apologize, and correct for those actions says a lot about his character and I would encourage everyone to take that into consideration. At the end of the day I believe he's a lot like us, he wants to make great games for people because that's something he truly enjoys. Sometimes the darker side of business overshadows that but I'm thankful that in this instance we were able to come to an agreement that will help both companies continue to make the products we love for our fans.
With that said, we are moving forward with the project at full speed and renewed enthusiasm. Your tremendous outpouring of support and emotion for this project makes it that much easier for us to do whatever we can to bring you our best. For us, the licensing issues have been resolved and we would prefer to focus on more positive aspects of the project. Beginning with more art!

Charlie could have made it right by staying out of it in the first place.
He could have NOT called Bicycle.
Won't spend a penny with them. Never again.
