I don't really want to clog up the KS thread with rulesy talk, so I started this thread.
I really like the adjustment to the conflict resolution. 'The Four Outcomes' The option to succeed at a minor cost (tie), or succeed at a major cost (fail up?). This has a somewhat Apocalypse World feel. While I may not use it 100% of the time, I think it will give some interesting options (both to players and GMs)

Fire those of us that are on the googles, stop by the #FateCore community on G+. Pretty good discussion going on there.
Or did I post that tidbit already? Feeling old today, like I can't trust the brainpan anymore...

As a total newcomer to FATE, I'd be interested to hear which parts of FATE Core are new; i.e: where changes have been made. I'm not looking for a huge list or anything, just any changes that are likely to make a noticeable difference. I know that the number of Aspects PCs start with have been cut down, and I recall reading something about a skill pyramid instead of columns (haven't played Dresden yet,) but what else have they fiddled with?

They sort of pulled ideas from several flavors of FATE to make FATE Core a better system.
In FATE 3.0 you have ten aspects and they were fairly broad in where thy came from. FATE Core whittles that in half with the first two having a very specific origin and then the rest being a little more general.
The Skill pyramid was in FATE 3.0, but they've introduced an advancement system using columns/rows. You can't have more powers on a row then the one below it on the Pyramid, but you can move skills up a rank on their column as you advance. The Advancement system in general is a new thing and very welcome as it makes FATE easier to use for longer campaigns.
The number of starting FATE points has been dropped dramatically since it used to be the number Aspects you had, so 10 for most. Now you get 3, and lose one for every stunt you take. SO its possible to start a session where someone only has a single FATE point. I'm not sure how well cutting them down so well works for getting people to spend them, hoping to run a playtest soonish.

They did say there would be a "What's new in FATE core" section at some point, but it's not in there right now. Anyway... other changes The succeed with a minor cost or major cost options (I think) are new. Explicitly stating a few different ways that 'extras' can work. (stunt based, aspect based, skill based, combo). Examples: => the powers from 'Wild Blue' => spending refresh for a better plane in 'Kriegszeppelin Valkyrie' I am sure there are more, and I'll put them in as I think of them. additional material If you are even remotely fond of Battlestar Galactica and pulp goodness, (and are a FATE core backer) you owe it to yourself to download and read 'Kriegszeppelin Valkyrie'. There is so much goodness in that 40 odd pages. A method to develop some friendly (or not so friendly) competition between pilots, both in actual kills and in the press back home. Opponents that learn and adapt to their opponents (think along the lines of Scar the cylon raider from BSG). And a slew of ready made PCs and NPCs to use or play. I really like how they're realeasing these early looks at different takes on how to use the FATE core toolbox. I also like the 'disclosure pledge' Fred sent out today. I can't say I'm a big fan of the FATE deck, but oh well.

I'm excited about the FATE Deck for exactly 2 reasons:
1. We play a lot on long road trips and it beats the crap outta dice in the car. 2. I have one player who hates dice.
Overall, I'm very excited to see what the community does with FATE Core. I'm hoping we see a lot of fan contribution, like the way you can search for "Savage________" and find a detailed book on what ever you want, official or not. I would love to see community FATE books start popping up everywhere.

Since the Kickstarter passed the creative commons licensing level, it's pretty likely that we will see a lot of fan based content.
OGL was where it started, but some people seem to feel that OGL is more of a restriction than creative commons. I don't know the difference, but some people thought it was important.

I managed to get in on the kickstarter near the end (and spent entirely too much on it), and love what I read so far. I am unsure if my current group will be willing to try it, but I hope so. I have to admit, compels are a grea idea. I think I could have a lot of fun with those.

I just got to play it for the first time at OrcCon and with one of the authors no less and with a table of truly amazing players. Had a metric ton of fun and really enjoyed the game and the system. Am seriously considering Fate Core for one of the games I'm planning for GameX in May.

Was that .... erm... Rob(?) somebody? the guy doing the Atomic Robo RPG? I've heard great things about him.
I'm excited that it's being published under Creative Commons... I'm seriously thinking of trying to publish a couple of my settings.

Totally fun game run by Mike and with amazing players. JiB

Hmmm.... Wonder where the heck I got Rob from... Ah well. The olde noggin was never what it used to be. ^.^ One of the players in the game was named Rob Sanderson, and he is one of the minds behind www.kickstarter.com/projects/azaroth42/conquering-corsairs-pirates-of-the-silver-seas Which is a kickstarter that everyone should back. I'm not a CCG guy and this looks like total fun. Gina played a game at OrcCon2013 and had a blast. Cheers, JiB

I don't think its a CCG, based on the description on the kickstarter its a deck builder so something more like Dominion. They just have a two tier setup where you can play a two player game with the starter set, or get the full version which gives you more cards so you could do a four player game. Does look kinda interesting.

I've been following (and loving) FATE since SOTC hit shelves and I got to play in a very fun one shot involving a Mad Scientist villain with a bunch of Mob goons as the "good" guys. Damn that game was fun. I got to flex a very bad Chicago gangster accent the whole game and construct logic traps for the Mad Scientist's robot minions.
Being a huge fan of the Dresden Files novels, I swooped up the DFRPG and loved it. Swooped up Diaspora and StarBlazer Adventures, and loved them. Strands of FATE opened up new doors on the system for me, and Strange FATE uses just such an awesome implementation of the system to build custom skills.
Unfortunately I've had little chance to game in the last four or five years, so my dry spell is really winding up my urge to try new systems and settings. Savage Worlds and FATE are easily my two favorite systems, though.
I can't tell you how excited I am for FATE core and the associated "Accelerated" titles that will come later. It was exceedingly wise for Evil Hat to take a step back and observe the FATE community for a few years before refining their system into a core rulebook, and it looks like their (and our!) patience is going to pay off in spades. I really like the direction the system is going in and man, I can't wait to get my hands on Atomic Robo!
So nothing really constructive to add, I'm just super psyched for the game. And having just hooked up with a local RPG meetup group, I might actually be able to get some gaming in, might even get a chance to run one of these games I've been so fond of for a number of years now. Heh.
