Hiya 'Jackers, I'm asking for some help to belt out a quick side trek for my AD&D 1e campaign. So far it's been pretty heavy going for the party . . . Standard Temple of Elemental Evil fare : assassins, undead, plots and counterplots resulting in paranoia and a sense of foreboding at every step. Pretty much what I wanted in terms of atmosphere. Thought it'd be good to lighten the mood a bit for a session: what I want is to create a quick encounter in the environs of Hommlet based on the best musical of all time 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' . . . Any ideas/input would be appreciated Aaron

A freak storm forces the party into an old run down manor house where they encounter a strange party happening. They are welcomes by a balding gnome named Riff Raff and his wife Magenta who tell them that their master is always glad to have new guests. Soon after they encounter Dr. Frank-n-furter, a necromancer, who it turns out is working on creating a perfect flesh golem to satisfy his twisted desires and he sees the party as perfect golem building material.
They are then attacked by his hoard of transvestite vampire elves. Escaping they find the various earlier rejected attempts by the doctor to create his masterpiece hidden deeper in the mansion. Then finally working their way to the doctors lab they face him and his uncompleted flesh golem in a final battle.

Brill very close to what I imagined. They're only 4th level - trying to create some side quests to get them to 6th before taking on the Temple proper (they've done Hommlet and a just finished a trip to Emridy Meadows : scenario fairly and squarely nicked from the PC game but tweaked significantly). Currently they are heading back to Hommlet via Penwick to recuperate (it's winter and one PC took off his clothes to dive in the river to retrieve a sword - 2mins later hypothermia - I did keep asking about the clothes and kept saying its winter the water is VERY cold. To be fair his logic was to have dry clothes to get back into but I would have thought at 1 min cold damage he'd have got the hint) Anyways check on the flesh golem. Riff Raff as a gnome = inspired. Vampires though a probably a bad idea at this level - considering I'm trying to boost experience at this point. Eddie I considered as a super zombie - fast and with some awareness. Dr F definitely a necromancer (chaotic neutral?). That leaves Magenta and Columbine? The guests, decadent elves maybe from and alternate reality - like the Sidhe in the demon web pits alternate prime material (Q1)? The mansion I thought might also exist in its own demi plane - intersecting with different primes at random thus it's 'appearance' (bit like Tanelorn in the eternal champion sagas)? I'd like to work the Time Warp into it somehow - cause its a cracking great song. Maybe the way out being to go further in to find the reset switch to land them back on their own prime? Perhaps getting Riff Raff to turn on Dr F like in the musical - dropping them off before returning with his prisoner to Transexual Transylvania? Aaron

I know Ravenloft is 2e, but would be a perfect place for the good doctor's mansion to be one of those demiplanes in a bubble. Have them get lost in the mists during the storm and find the mansion, so they are for all intents and purposes trapped. Knowing the level vampires would be a bad idea so go with the decandant elves, cultists maybe?
Make the Time Warp part of a ritual perhaps, Frank'n'furter is actually in a topor type state and the song bends time to wake him up. Riff Raff and Magenta are his high priest and priestess leading the others, but also wanting to take his mantle, thus setting up the betrayal at the end. As you mentioned you could also use the song again to twist time thus spitting the part out of the demiplan at the exact moment they had entered it.
I'd make Magenta either another gnome or perhaps a halfling, since like Riff Raff she had the crazy hair and was always kinda hunched over. Columbine I'd say make a half-elf bard.
I'm a big fan of the movie as well so I have lots of ideas now. I might have to turn this into a one-shot at some point.

Yeah this is shaping up now: I've no problem with 2e materials (just put a pen thru thac0 and it's usually ready to roll). A Demi plane set adrift from its home plane - due to the interference of the nodes under the temple of elemental evil. A cult of chaotic neutral hedonists. Eddie - a neutral and intelligent (or more intelligent than standard) ettin from and alternate prime. His second head being used in Dr F's flesh golem of pleasure. Dr Scott : an actually intelligent ettin from the same prime as Eddie. Lawful Neutral. Columbia : half elf bard. The most tragic figure of the lot because she genuinely loved Eddie. A potential ally for the PC's. Riff Raff and Magenta - gnomes but slightly taller as from an alternate plane. The PC's need to play the diplomacy game rather than hack and slash to get back. ie: recruit Columbine, play on the doubts of Riff Raff and Magenta to help the PC's by virtue of helping themselves. In keeping with the theme of the musical I thought of having a hedge maze in the mansion gardens with triffids lurking therein - "spit poison and kill". Dr F has the device that controls the mansions random passage thru the different planes - thus the need to confront him. I was thinking he could be a Magic User/Cleric maybe levels 7/7 but batshit crazy so as not to have a TPK. ie: he doesnt want to kill the PC's just play with them and convert them to his cult of 'absolute pleasure' Rocky, referencing 'touch me I want to be dirty', could carry a disease check every time he's touched (like giant rats). Though the diseases would have to be venereal in nature. An unintended side effect of his creation. On returning to their prime the PC's would also have the problem of what to do with Dr Scott - an intelligent and educated LN ettin in a wheelchair? He's not going to fit in with AD&D standard ettin society Plus a room that's a potions lab with random potions being made available and an opportunity to use the oft neglected potion miscabiliy table Aaron

I shall be stealing this I thinks.
And crawling on the planet's face, some insects, called the human race. Lost in time, and lost in space, and meaning.

I was also thinking maybe a large geletanious cube a la the blob and maybe 'The Fly' in one of the guest rooms (fly head human body not the other one). The cult could be presided over my an elder entity : R'Kay Oo (RKO). Much like the elder elemental god Gary had in GreyHawk (though it was never officially published) - it was essentially a cthulhuesque elder being . . . I just like the idea of squid tentacles erupting from the pool at the end to bring this rogue Demi plane back 'home'. Aaron

This... this is just fabulous. Tap shoed tentacle time warp out of Ravenloft? Best form of transportation ever.

I'm currently trying to find the floorplans of the original mansion they used in the movie . . . why invent it if it already exists. Plus racking my poor braincells for usable 1950's to 1970's B-Movie references. With 'The Fly' I thought his head could be disguised by full helm - a paladin from an alternate prime trapped like the PC's but "fallen from grace". He won't explain why he's fallen until the appropriate reveal. Aaron

Maybe the mansion is near the Mathmos from Barbarella?

Ooooh . . . Barbarella (fond smile). That's really tempting but I'll save that one for when I resurrect my Strontium Dog (from Mongoose based on the Traveller Ruleset) oneshot as a campaign (the players have hinted twice that they'd like this so I succumbed and agreed to do so in the future) I thought of having The Robot from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' (original not the horrible remake) wandering the Mansion. A failed earlier experiment of Dr F's to create a pleasure golem . . . obviously it's be something like a small stone golem or something intent on trying to grapple PC's to give them a 'huge hug'. A random encounter to be avoided/run away from rather than confront . . . Aaron

Final refinement: 'The Fly' Paladin - chasme demons head while in the middle of the hedge maze? a huge spider and web with a trapped chasme demon with the Paladin's head. (help me help me, bzzt . . . ) Aaron
