I feel really bad about it, and exceedingly irritated. I think it would've helped if I had rolled better, regardless of what I was rolling for.

Hai! Definitely a sign of game grabbing its players by their respective shorts when we walked away feeling like "Yay! We won...BUT AT WHAT COST ? WHAT COST..."
I was definitely nervous by our lack of any sort of coherent plan which would allow us to look out for one another. But then again thats mass combat: a big fuckin' chaotic mess. I think I would have been dead twice over if not for the mighty T.C. armor and extra void (oh and my ax wielding lunatic of a brother). So when's it back to regular ol' Hida Jimunsha "Savior of the Zachoichi (I'm not even trying to spell that right at this hour...) I already am feeling nervous. I envisioned being crushed in a sea of sword swinging idiots and deciding to hang back a bit and rest on my laurels of killing the governor. Meanwhile my brother again charged head long into the fray and I still held back only to watch Okimoto get cut down. So as this progresses Jimunsha definitely is feeling some guilt and concerns of being a coward. That'll be fun to play out...
Great game Mike! Maybe I'll make another character just to have in reserve...L5R can be damn deadly.

I feel really bad about it, and exceedingly irritated. I think it would've helped if I had rolled better, regardless of what I was rolling for. Don't. My death was really a combination of two things, me playing to my berserker school and a really solid hit. If I'd stuck with regular attack rather than full attack I'd have fared much better and been hit less but that wasn't the Matsu way, we kicked ass during the first skirmish so I (player and character) got cocky in the next one. Secondly the hit that felled me did 27 damage, so it was an exceedingly good blow given the katana is a keep 2 weapon and if you'd not been there I'd have died well before that attack landed.

And I'll be transparent... I gimped several damage rolls. If I hadn't you guys and the Hidas would probably all be dead. I kept rolling exceedingly well on damage and I didn't feel that was fair so I was tempering the damage.

oh yeah. The death bothered me too. I mean. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yama respected Okimoto. He was beginning to accept him as a brother in life as well as in arms. . . . . . . . . .so sad.
but yeah. I agree with Craig. All the sadness is a good thing. I mean . . . . . . .it will be all the sadder if ANOTHER character dies.

I can't wait to catch up to this, I have shamefully been remiss in my listening to these exploits.

So I've finally finished off the draft of my new character so any comments SirGuido D.T. Pints bloodsparrow jfever (or anybody else for that matter) Morashi KosakuThe Morashi family have been ronin for almost 200 years after an ancestor decided that the Gaijin weapon known as a musket would be an ideal weapon to combat the monsters of the shadowlands. After smuggling the weapons into Rokugan he led a small group of samurai into the shadowlands, intending to hunt down the largest oni they could find. Unprepared and unfamiliar with the new weapons the group was slaughtered. The family's shame, however, was compounded when a Crab patrol discovered the massacre and the report returned to the Clan representative at the wall. The remaining members of the family were immediately made ronin to atone for their actions. Generations later they have taken the name of Morashi, severing all ties to their former Clan. Morashi Kosaku is the latest to follow what has become a long tradition within the family, to leave his family behind and offer his services to the Crab in the hope of regaining his place in the celestial order. Having known no life other than that of the ronin he is a pragmatic and driven individual, willing to sacrifice his personal honour even as he seeks to regain the honour of his family. So now it is Hida Jimunsha that will show you a thing or two about behavior in polite society after having spent nearly a year amidst the fluffy Crane...wait..where are we going now ? Balls.

I'm fine with the bow, but I think you mean dai-kyu. IIRC han-kyu is the teeny tiny hand bow. Dai-kyu is the standard bow I think. Oh, and I love your concept. LOVE it.

Yumi is the standard bow, Dai-kyu is the horseback strong bow

Yeah I meant to put the standard bow in there, though looking over the rules again I'll need to up my strength if I want to make full use of it. I've gone and tweaked a few things in the post but need to check something rules wise, specifically multiple attacks when using two weapons. The sidebar on page 141 implies that if you wield two weapons you can attack with each but at a penalty to each attack. Is this right? I'm just a little confused given the presence of the extra attack maneuver or is that for making multiple attacks with the same weapon?
Depending on the answer I may therefore also ask if I can replace my katana with a second knife and have it that the reason I'm going out into the shadowlands is that I'm searching for the ancestral blade that was lost during the event that made the family ronin.

From what I know in regards to the bow usage, if your physical strength is not as much a the bows strength, then you are limited by only adding your strength dice to the damage roll.
I.e. bow strength 3, user strength 2, willow leaf = 4k2 (user strength plus arrow strength)
