I had a joke termagant squad. They all had chef hats and tiny bottles of barbecue sauce where their arm guns should be. They were the barbecue bugs.

Tyranid Brand Barbecue Sauce. Hivemind tested, brood approved.
A taste so good, even Lictors come out of hiding for it!
9 out of 10 Rippers agree. They'll only consume biomatter that's been slathered in Tyranid Brand Barbecue sauce!

I feel that the setting is the strongest part of 40k, though the system is beautiful as well. I'd say feature enemies that are different Xenos races but Chaos tainted. I love me some Chaos. Also, be sure the characters have some mechanical implants to show them what the technology of the universe can do. Also, a Psyker is always fun, if you have a handle on the rules for the powers. If done right the enemies of the 40k universe can leave one hell of an impression, don't be afraid to pull out all the stops. All good advice thank you! Now I just need to figure out his much BBQ sauce do you need for a carnifex? And do Blood Angels ever play nice ?

If you wanted to be an inquisitor what kind of inquisitor wouid you want to be? Okay, well here's an interesting thing that I'm actually going through as a player in a current game of Dark Heresy. We're in Ascension now and have quite the group and a GM that is the most dedicated man to the art of world building and story writing that I have ever met. An amazing GM and he loves to do it. Our group is not small, all 4 of us have a main character and a love interest (that all started out as GMPCs before being passed to us to play. We're a group that enjoys romance in our games and again my GM is a master at it. Each relationship has it's own feel, if you will.) But anyway, our Inquisitor's name is Verellion and he started out when we were just little baby characters as a kind sort of guy, kind of the opposite that you would expect for the 40k universe. But he was very wise, very firm when need be and he was willing to sacrifice himself for the good of the Imperium, or at least the Emperor. Then we had quite the shock come to us awhile back in the game. Our Inquisitor is actually a son of the Emperor, not like a Space Marine, mind you. But an actual Son of the God Emperor himself. More or less immortal and completely badass. (Yes, he has been in combat with us maybe once or twice in the 3 years this campaign has gone on but it has only served the story and was never just the GM being egotistical and wanting to play.) Not only is he the Son of the Emperor but he's not the only one, he has several brothers. (One of them being The Faceless One, the bad guy that has plagued us from the very beginning of the game.) And I know some of these facts may raise some questions about my GM but I'll assure you now. Never once has he out-shined us as players, never once has it felt as if he was stroking his own ego, and he's always served the story first which is why he's so good and he's half the reason I started GMing with another group. Anyway, as far as Inquisitors go, try to make them somehow align with the characters that you have in the group, otherwise it will just end in constant arguments and backstabbing, which can be fun but after awhile players cease to be okay with being ordered around by someone who doesn't take their opinions into consideration. If I were to play an Inquisitor, I honestly don't know what I would play. I would probably lean toward the more charismatic type of character in a leadership role, just because I don't play for combat and try to avoid it. Anyway, enough about me and my game, sorry if I was boring, my GM just makes me happy and I don't brag about him a lot because there aren't many gamers around where I am.

Are you talking about who the players should work for? The actual inquisitors tend to be on Space Marine-levels of power. Deciding which sort of Inq the players are working for says a lot about the game, though.
Obviously your order is the first thing to decide, because it's going to determine what sort of enemies you're seeing most often. I like Hereticus the best because I think it offers the widest range, but it looks like your set-up is leaning toward Xenos. After that, decide whether you're dealing with a conservative, moderate, or radical when it comes to their views on the enemy. For a long term game, sucking them in with a radical can be fun, but short-term and con games probably won't really get any payoff from that.

Good ideas Jackers!
lilappleblossom: That DH game sounds pretty incredibly epic and amazing! I love it when GMs take an established setting like the 40k verse and do really shattering things with it. It makes me giggle when people get all huffy about crazy, weird takes on known settings, wrecking them (or just extreme tweaking)..."Man! you can't do that! The Emperor's son really ?!?" Where I would promptly state "Yep! Shit is going to get crazy so strap in acolytes!"
It is also very reassuring to hear that your GM actually incorporates some humanity i.e. "love interests" into all that heavy handed Grim Dark shit. I mean I love the brooding, skull infested 'verse of the 41st millennium but it requires a delicate brush if it ever is going to feel immersive and horrific. Dialing it to 11 all the time with 'spece marines' and skulls, and chaos daemons, and skulls, and tyrannids, and skulls...starts to lose some of its impact. "Put! A! Skull! ON IT!"
But if that wild, chain sword wielding amazon assassin actually has a partner waiting for them back on the battle freighter and maybe even dare I say it...Kids ?!? Then the horror and darkness can become so much more tangible.
Northman: I asked the inquisitor question basically to get the answer that lil' gave me...what makes a good leader to serve. What's interesting and what's annoying and obnoxious. "GO HERE! KILL THEM ALL! TORTURE THE HERETICS!" gets a bit tiring for some players. I'm thinking of kind of a cross between this guy:
And this guy...
(a little long but rather inspired in my mind...)

That's why the later Gaunt's Ghosts books were so good.
