Being able to set up all kinds of rules around the idea of "Different Folks' magic works different ways" is really at the heart of that setting, and hero was ready to oblige me. Eberron is, at the heart of it all, (Pulp + Noir) * (Magitech + Fantasy). If my players have the ability to say "My character is an Inquisitive Reporter who does a little side work in enchanting" and then I can say "Great. I already know how to stat that out" then we're on a good path. Whereas if we were using D&D, like Eberron originally intended, we'd say "I guess you should have levels in rogue? Too bad your spellcasting will always suck..."
I think Hero will free up my players a lot. We'll see what they think.
